I can totally see some of that happening in the next 5-10 years with the way technology is advancing so fast.

never gonna happen,

governments will never invest money into that, and put it on the streets.

not to mention vandalism, cost vs practicallity.

I was waiting for a glass condom at the end.
I can definately see the car navigation looking like that, but the road signs will be mechanical (see the Massey Tunnel southbound sign that changes).

Everything they showed is actually already do-able with current technology - it's just a matter of cost

yea, they showcase what future technology is going to look like... but the cars, people, clothing will stay in the present.

so... people will still have a 2010 VW in 2020?

That's one heavily modded VW.

Yeah, I don't see this stuff happening... at least nowhere soon.
Costs way too much. And even then...

It's like when TVs and computers first came out. It'll take a while
before prices will become affordable for everyone.

the basics of this stuff has been around for awhile like it was pointed out microsoft surface has been around since at least 2008. I remember 5 hilton hotels invested in the technology back then at a cost of 12k+ per screen/table top. The fact is it wont be everywhere until the price drops significantly which it is starting to slowly do 12k>7k but the fact is thats still too high for a lot of business's especially considering if its only 1 table top. if anyone banks with rbc you might see something similar soon

just think how long LED light has been around, and you still don't see it covering the city despite all the benefits to it.

btw, 1962. (50 years ago lol)

to say this type of technology will be around the city in 5-10 is just not reasonable. The only thing I could see happening is maybe the screen in the chicks car, and some of the things around the house.

edit:

Green initiatives (article taken from vancouver.ca)

Most of the City’s street lights are high pressure sodium (HPS) fixtures, offering the best balance of cost and performance. We’re now evaluating the use of electronic ballast based fixtures to significantly reduce energy consumption. The branch is also testing induction lighting with a longer service life to reduce maintenance costs. LED lights are being evaluated in several locations.

best time to invest into rare earth element stocks.

all jokes aside, this is not happening.

maintenance vs cost vs performance vs nessicity, to me all these points to the negative side.

browsing store on a screen? imagine how many people will line up for that.

led street sign integrated with vehicles? is there a problem with today's navigation and gps?

led navigation for bus stops? 90% of the people won't even use that considering how easy it is to get around in vancouver.

only thing i can see happening is the touch screen in the car and those tables for business projects.
