Going from 15" to 17" question Question: So I just got an alignment done with my 15" steelies w/ winters.. I decided to put on my 17" for the first time since I bought them used.. My questions is when I drive its perfectly fine, but when coming to a stop the car always pulls to the right pulls itself into the groves of the road.. Not to sure why this is.. Driving 100km/hr on the hwy its perfectly fine drives straight even when no hands are on the wheel. Only happens when I slow down... Do i need spacers or something? |
It's just the grooves in the pavement. nothing to worry about it's perfectly normal. Posted via RS Mobile |
Is there a way to make it not soo harsh? My cars got electric steering so its really smooth but once i start slowing down its just jerks the wheel when i drive with 1 hand. Yes I could drive with both hands but when your crawling at 5km/h and the wheel just goes left and right its annoying. |
With 15" wheels, the tires had bigger profile so the sidewall can flex through the groves and absorb bumps as well without moving your steering. On low profile tires, the sidewall is smaller so there is minimal flexing/absorbency when the tire contacts bumps and groves which directly turns your steering. You can't fix this as this is the only downside to low profile tires. Imagine if your car is lowered and on higher spring rate. Bouncy. |
do the new rims fit the hub correctly? might need hub centric rings |
Agree with MintyGreenTea. Only other thing it could be is uneven tire pressure, tires aren't worn the same or steering/susp. components are getting worn (ie. TRE's, bushings, ball joints). |
your fine, you don't need any spacers. |
Normally smaller sidewalled and wider tires are more squirmy, and this will happen. almost may be uneven tire pressure as well. but you should be fine. |
Search up tramlining. It's exactly what you're describing. |

Happened to me when I switched from 15 to 16, and from 15 to 18 too. It sorts itself out after a while, I'm not sure what caused it though. |
