Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different "moment of frequency" (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads – horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.
So what the hell are u suppose to do take the elevator down? Dont think so! All those points are true but based on very circumstantial occurrences
im watching right now too, and what im seeing is the Japanese ambassador bullshitting right to Wolf Blitzers face, for fucks sake tell the truth man people's lives are at stake, and this fcking guy is sittin there trying to save face...
nobody is gonna be pissed and blame Japan for the meltdown geez, they have probably the best earthquake precaution systems in the world, just tell the truth buddy so they can do something about it before it's too late

I think hes been told what he can and cannot say. Hes just a figurehead/puppet in this situation. His job is foreign relations, not public relations.
I can't really blame this guy for trying to bullshit because its likely CNN has better information about the situation than he does.
Also, CNN's yellow journalism hasn't mentioned the "meltdown" in 20 mins or so. It was obviously a hook to bring people to their screens to watch Wolf grill the ambassador. Shame.

I agree 100% they don't have a clue what they are doing right now so they are just giving BS.
ya 250 aftershocks above 5.0, fckin crazy, they saying it could go on for months as the tectonic plates settle...
and they saying the possibility of an even stronger after shock than the original 8.9 quake still exists
so the way they measure it is the Haiti quake for example was a 7.0, and an 8.0 is 32 times stronger than the 7, and so forth in increments of 1.0 is 32x the strength

From what I have read, they are currently flooding the reactor core with seawater as an emergency cooling measure. That should virtually eliminate the threat of a massive fission product release. That seawater will continue to boil and will either need to be cooled through a shutdown cooling heat exchanger or through controlled releases of the built-up vapor and replenished. Controlled releases of this vapor when the wind is to the east will have negligible impact.
Quote:
I'm not going to lie, they have exhausted all of the other backups, at least for the time being. Using seawater directly is "last-ditch". The ultimate backup is nearly always always just to dump unpurified water on the core. Sometimes that's domestic water, or lake/river water, or sometimes it's seawater. Basically whatever water is used for the condenser cooling can usually be redirected into any system necessary, but is never ever used unless in a situation like this.
It will chemically contaminate the core, and it's an absolute bastard to clean up (it may never run again), but seawater will be just as efficient at cooling in the interim as a purified water will.
The media is doing a good job re-wording the same headlines over and over again to maintain an interesting story. If you actually read the articles and updates you would know that over the last two days very little has changed with respect to the condition of the various reactors in question.
On top of that, the media presents the information in a way that would lead us to believe that should a reactor core fail (melt down) there would be widespread contamination. In reality, in the even of a complete reactor core failure the chance of contamination outside the facility is very unlikely.
The major concern with a melt down is this, right now if they can get the reactor temps under control they can "probably" recomission the facility without having to make extensive repairs. If a complete reactor failure occurs then the reactor in question will be damaged beyond repair and will cost a lot of money to rebuild, nevermind the extensive on-site clean up costs.
Don't let the media headlines get you worked up, wait until some facts come out.

I was just watching this video. Look at the 2min mark on the right hand side you can see something flying through the water that is not part of the tsunami.
