This is terrifying!
I'm so sick of the government not doing anything. We need to lobby our politicians to do whatever it takes to get this fixed

What do you want the Canadian and US government to do? Especially when you mention that Japan is a sovereign nation. The last time the US got involved in Japan's affairs, lowering the amount of radiation in Japan was NOT their plan.

Why do you think this? There's already radiation leaking into the ocean and the debris from it has washed upon our shores. What do you think will happen if another earthquake hits?
I would like our government to start pressuring the un or whoever it takes to get the needed people into this plant to fix the problem before something catastrophic happens. I think it's only a matter of time

Just because they are working hard, doesn't mean they are competent.
Even if they are competent, doesn't mean they have all the answers...

and going by their track record and what the experts are saying, they are far from having the situation well in hand.

TEPCO, the power company is running things.
But they were saving face, to say nothing was seriously wrong and they were doing ok with the clean up.
Before fessing up that they don't have their shit together.

and TEPCO says they won't cover the decontamination costs.

You tell me if they have their shit together.
Because it's not just affecting them, but the ocean eco system

I saw a really interesting program a couple weeks ago, on CBC I believe, about a woman on the BC coast who tracks down the owner of a small fishing boat which had washed up near her floating home.

When I was in Japan, there was a huge story when TEPCO admitted that they can't handle the problem, and are asking for help. So from there, the government will be stepping in to help.

So technically, they are incompetent, in that they don't think they can stop the leak completely. But aren't trying to save face - they admitted that they can't fix the problem on their own.

So bad water is leaking, and they can't fix it. Does that mean everyone living on the coast of the pacific ocean should move inland? Does that mean the entire country of Japan will have to be quarantined? How about look at the facts.. real numbers:

As for how much 'radiation water' (Tritium) is being released, they are still under the predetermined safety guidelines of 22 trillion bq per year. (estimates are between 20-40 trillion since the accident in 2011). So the amount hasn't gone up at all compared to normal operation.

For Strontium and Cesium, the amount released has been 700 billion to 10 trillion Bq and 1 to 20 trillion Bq respectively. This is higher than the normal amount released, but levels outside the port haven't increased compared to normal activity since the accident.

rather than starting a new thread, ill post here instead.

ive been hearing a lot of talk that we shouldnt eat the salmon and tuna anymore due to contamination of radiation leaks in Japan. Im honestly confused whether this is a solid fact or false rumours. I love eating AYCE sushi so i want to know if this should be a concern?
