| Sennheiser Hd 600 vs Dre pro beats
Been thinking about getting one of these headphones, i listened to the pro beats in bestbuy and they had amazing sound quality but i also heard that the sennheisers were also good. They're both around $400, but i have no clue which ones to buy  |

Sennheiser Hd 600 are real pro headphones. Dre's are just marketing. I would take a MP3 player with songs you know and head over to Tom lee and Long and Mcquade and have a listen.
The Sennheiser Hd 600 are open back if that maters to you.

lol I wouldn't expect anyone on the forum to support something as pretentious as the dre's tbh, people are too insecure behind their keyboards to give a professional comparison on here. Same goes for bose products. I got the dre studios as a gift and find them quite mediocre, however I also got the turbine coppers as a gift and I think they're awesome.
Headroom has done some testing on a few headphones that you can compare, I don't think they have the pro beats yet but maybe wait a little longer, in the meantime you can check out the vast selection of headphones there are out there. http://www.headphone.com/index.php | |

Don't limit your self to only two options as there are so many great can's out there! I personally prefer the sound of Grado can's over all else...
I've used the Dre's extensively for about two months for commuting to/from work, they do have excellent sound cancellation, but have a bit of bleed. The sound isn't as defined as I would like in the mid's and lows.

They are comparing the SR60 (Entry level Grado) SR235i and Sennheiser HD580. I know it's not the exact model you're considering but it'll give you an idea of the type of sound you'll hear. You can read through Head-fi for other information about Can's, it's a pretty good source of info.
Also, the BEST thing I can suggest is to go try them out, pick 3-5 songs that you KNOW like the back of your hand and listen! Review's can only go so far as only you know what you like.

The Beats by Dre are just pretty...but they're not very good. I considered buying them too because they look great but the sound isn't up to par with the price.

I listen to some rock, but for the most part it's hip hop for me.. so i guess having a good bass quality is important

400 gives you quite a few options for cans, don't limit yourself to 2 choices, read up on head-fi.
Love my grados but not the best choice for bass lovers.

denon d2k's
i wanted the AKG702 for the looks and the detachable cable, but their lack of bass made me choose otherwise. they'd sound good with a dac/amp like the headstage arrow 3G or ibasso d6 (quality bass boost), but that's another $300.
the d2k's are super easy to drive. and super comfortable too. i'm not sure how the hd600 sounds unamped.

u can also look at beyer's | I've got the Denon 2000's and I love them. I'm using a Total Bithead from Headroom to drive them. Works great.
They're also great for watching movies. In fact, when I'm watching alone I prefer to use the headphones.

have you ever thought of upgrading from the total bithead?
i thought about the arrow 3G but i think he just increased the price on it.
when i looked up the total bithead upon ur suggestion i was so tempted because of the price, but i only want to get one dac/amp and be done with it, so i was skeptical about the difference in sound quality. unfortunately, from my time on head-fi, i find that SQ is almost directly porportional to $, and it's so hard to qualify or quantify someone (or a grp of ppl)'s opinions. still searching ...

I also prefer a single dac/amp combo in a portable unit that can be used at home or on the go. That may be insufficient to drive some higher impedance headphones, but doesn't seem to present any difficulties with the Denon's.
I don't want to upgrade, although I've never heard a better setup. Since I'm perfectly happy and don't know any better, why spend the money? Also, value seems to erode as your gear gets better. They guys on head-fi make a big deal over differences that require a trained ear to hear. I'm not going to pay double the price for a 2% improvement.
That being said the pico was a draw to me once I got more into it. If I had to start over and had the money to spend, I might just get one of those and me done with it. In the meantime, I'm perfectly happy with the bithead and it's a noticeable improvement over the jack in my laptop.

The HD600's and the Dre pro beats are different types of headphones. The HD600's are open so if you are using them in a noisy environment you won't because to use them. However, if you are using them in a quiet environment they reproduce audio with high clarity and detail. Don't expect too much bass from these though.
The Dre Beats are overpriced and are closed. They are focused on Name, Looks, and muddy bass.
However, headphones are best compared by listening to them yourself.
