Car audio RCA's usually have more insulation and/or are twisted together to reduce alternator or power wire interferance. They are also platinum or gold plated to reduce corrosion a little more effectively.

I don't think there's huge differences other than shielding and length.

There's like 10K RCA cables for the serious home hifi stuff. So technically home stuff can be higher quality.

Just the price and marketing hype... Welcome back the "monster cable" propaganda.

Any RCA can be used in home or auto applications. A GOOD quality cable is the same in both.

They both have high quality & low quality cables.. just that in home, there are much higher price and level of quality. As mentioned above.. car audio cable are designed more to reject noise.

Also something to keep in mind: Mark up on car RCA cables is MUCH lower than it used to be. Years ago you'd see a 300%+ mark up on some cables (like Monster for example). Now its typical to see a 25%-40% mark up. Home audio is an entirely different story.

lobird, I remember listening to a few pairs of very expensive interconnects at your place. This was quite a few years ago and I remember thinking about a device that does what the comparator does. As with most people, it was just a thought. Anyway, I recall the differences between the cables were quite noticeable - even for someone who has a bit of hearing loss from years of working in a factory.

The problem with spending huge amounts of money on interconnects, in an automobile, is that while on the road, the difference goes out the window (pun sort of intended). I do have decent ones installed in my vehicles, as I do listen to the systems quite a bit while parked. I'm more concerned about the connectors themselves when choosing cables.

The quest for the last 5% of audio perfection/nirvana is very expensive, indeed. It's too bad most of the population can't hear the difference. Like I mentioned in some other thread, life must suck for those who have perfect pitch - having to listen to a world full of musical imperfection.

well thanx to soundsgood.

i just needed a nice short 1M or less high quality rca's for my dj set up. i have some nice home audio rca's but they are in use and are far too long 12ft.

from media to mixer, its less than 3ft, i could have gotten away with 2ft actually, but i wanted to get some quality rca's over the crappy disposable ones the media's came with.

seems overkill, but yes, you can hear the difference, actually had to turn down my gain 1 notch and no more crackles!
