I was in support for an intervention @ the beginning of this mess but as time passed and as I looked just slightly more into the situation... I just don't know anymore
Just some points to get across
1. Libya has a GDP Per Capita of $15,000 (rough average of the 3 main ranking orgs IMF, World Bank, CIA) That's extremely high... that's very high and when you look @ scenes from Libya they look pretty well off and those numbers confirm that; so i don't know if anyone could say the people are being oppressed monetarily
2. Benghazi (where the rebellions began) has always been Anti-Qaddafi (Monarchy supporters) and this is where the rebellion sprouted from and where the HQs of the rebels seem to be now
3. Qaddafi has a large amount of supporters, in fact the rebellion is in the minority
4. Al-Qaeda, Qaddafi has said at the beginning of this that Al-Qaeda was involved with the uprising, the West had said that this was basically bullshit and Qaddafi was just saying that to keep the West out.
However an Al-Qaeda commander has released a video purportedly within a rebel held area in Libya proclaiming support for the rebels and to bring Qaddafi down and bring Sharia-law into Libya.

The Majority of suicide bombers in Iraq / Afghanistan are reported to be from Eastern-Libya (Benghazi) this was just remarked upon on Wolf Blitzers "The Situation Room" on CNN (right as I was typing this message) and the link above.
just google it and you'll find all sorts of reports about militants originating from Libya (if u read the reports you'll find the majority of them were Jailed in Libya for their militant/terrorist/anti-usa activities)
http://www.asiantribune.com/news/201...itancyus-milit 5. Qaddafi, after Bush started going on his war spree, supported the Bush administration and Qaddafis son Seif had this to say in 2004
Quote:
"Instead of shouting and criticising the American initiative, you have to bring democracy to your countries, and then there will be no need to fear America or your people. The Arabs should either change or change will be imposed on them from the outside." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programme...ht/3728469.stm |
Qaddafi has also been attacking Islamist militants within his country for quite a few years and removing clergymen who support terrorism within Mosques and attacking Al-Qaeda outposts etc etc. (noted a bit in the link provided above)
So it's no surprise that Al-Qaeda would be against Qaddafi and supporting the rebels the evidence that is seen/known should suggest that this is the case.
6. Qaddafi has said that he won't be selling Oil to Europe anymore (European countries
DEPEND on Libya
7. The Media keeps calling this a slaughter of Civilians... Civilians don't have Jets (the one shot down on the day of the UN Resolution is said to be a Rebel jet) they don't have artillery, etc etc
The USA & media has said that Qaddafi says he'll show "No Mercy" against the civilians/rebels (its a quote of Qaddafi) however in the
same speech Qaddafi has said "if you put down your arms you'll be pardoned"
So hmm weird situation... I don't think I could support an intervention anymore... there seems to be something else going on
edit: its also disturbing that the US is allowing Bahrain to slaughter/arrest Bahraini citizens in protest of the govt/monarchy AND allowing Saudi Arabia to send forces in to do the dirty work for Bahrain
Saudi forces have reportedly even gone into hospitals to gather wounded protesters (who have been peaceful btw unlike Libya) and beaten Doctors who get in their way
and it Sounds like the US Congress is pissed off because Obama didn't get support from the Govt. to go into action and that Obama hasn't made the mission clear first it was to impose peace and now Obama is saying to depose Qaddafi etc... (both Democrats and Republicans are pissed)
very weird...
