I just wait for mine to idle down before going and thats all I recommend people to do with their cars. Then drive casually till everything warms up.

i usually let it run till the temperature needle starts moving, that thud sound does happens to my girlfriends car when i just pull it out of the driveway cold.

I go 30-45 seconds then move off. Takes the same amount of time to sift through my radio presets for the least crappy thing on.

I have to because of the tight tolerances I had my motor built for. I can monitor temps so I usually hold the idle at 2000rpm for about 2-3 min or approx 80f oil temp. Then I drive easy until oil is o 120-130f

cars don't require to be became moderately hot at all. Driving them softly is the best moderately hot up there is. If it's 25 qualifications out, you might desire to let it moderately hot up for 30 seconds. If it's 10 qualifications out, moderately hot it up for a minute.

my rsx s fires up and idle around 2000rpm in the morning. It's a bit lower now because it's gotten warmer. I let it sit around 1 minute while I buckle up, put my music on and row through the gears a bit (3rd gear crap). Then it usually gets to around 1500rpm and then I drive off slowly shifting around 2k. Once I get to the main roads I know it has warmed up because it idles at just under 1k. During winter time, I let it sit longer, but generally easy driving will do. Hope this helps!

Yep, to what phil said I usually just start it and wait for it to idle normally then off I go. But if not I like the idle go down a bit then shift at 2000rpm.

I'm of the mindset that the car likes it.

All of my vehicles I've always warmed up.

96 4.3l V6 Sierra shifted like crap without a 2 min warm up.
05 Civic Reverb in the winter would idle high at about 1.8-2K
06 Speed6 hates me when I dont warm it up. Lurches and almost stalls every time. Tranny shifts noticeably better after letting the needle hit the first bar on the guage.

My question is with a turbo, isnt it best to warm it all up?

30 sec warm up on NA, 1 min on turbo cars, that's my method. Winter time I double those numbers.

I usually wait like 5 minutes or so. In the mornings my car usually idles at 1500 RPM, I like to leave at 1k. Then i'll just stay below 2k-2.5k rpms/out of boost for about 10 minutes of driving.

The reason for us to warm our cars up is to minimize engine wear. Most engine wears is from a cold start, in my opinion using mobil 1 5W30 synthetic is the best option. Synthetic flows through tiny gaps ALOT better then normal oils

In the mornings I usually start the car sit down, buckle up, put my music in and just sit there for abit simply cuz I'm usually sleepy still for about a minute or so and then I drive like a granny until I'm out of my neighborhood.

Only point of warming up your car would be to build oil pressure. At idle this is not as high as would be under normal driving situations.

For me I start my car, do up my seatbelt, make adjustments and go. This usually takes 30-45 seconds. This is ample time to get things moving in there and I keep the car under 3500rpm until I am building decent oil pressure (or till the water temp gauge reaches normal operating temp).

This was something I picked up when running the rotarys back in the days. Idle just does not build enough oil pressure and this can cause premature wear on the engine internals.

As long as you don't thrash the car when its cold you should be fine tho.

maybe in rotary's case but for most engines at cold idle, oil pressure is adequate.

agree with you. it has little or no oil at top of engine internal when you start it cold. i think it take less than 5 seconds to have oil circulate inside an engine.
but i find a tank of gas last longer if i let it warm up for 30 to 45 seconds every time i start a cold engine

When I havent done oil change in awhile, and I don't warm the car up, my oil pressure light will come on in a few minutes of driving. So I warm the car up for a few minutes before I go usually.

i warm it up for 30 seconds at this temp, when is around 0, i warm it up for 1min 30 sec

I drive under 3000rpm until my water and oil temp is past 70 Degree C and when my oil pressure is at fully warmed idle pressure.

As soon as my feet are toasty.

ofcors yes but if im on a hurry atlest 1min of warm up just to circulate the oil wich is very importan thing in the engine. specially on the v6, v8 or higher you need to lubricate every components.

I usually warm up for a minute then drive slowly until my cars warmed
