Paypal scam? Im selling a tv on craigslist, same one i posted on RS. I got an email from this "engineer" and not sure if its legit. Once I receive the money from him, is there a way he can take it back? Should I even be worried if I'm the seller? Take a look below. Hello, Thanks for the mail, I'm seriously interested in buying this for my son and am okay with your selling price, I'm a Petroleum Engineer and currently offshore i really want this as a surprise gift for my son so i won't let him know anything about this until it get delivered to him.You can mail me back with your paypal email address so i can make the payment to you right now and if you don't have an account with paypal you can set up an account today as it's secured and reliable visit their website on www.paypal.com. Do not worry about shipping or picking up as my pick up agent will come and pick it up from you once have made the payment to you and your full address and phone number will be needed for the pickup arrangement I would love to speak with you through the phone but due to my work as a Petroleum Engineer i work mainly offshore, our phone is down on the rig right now due to bad weather, We can still communicate through the email exchange for now. I will be looking forward to read back from you real soon with the paypal email address and your full address including phone number for the pickup arrangement |
100% SCAM. Nigerian money scammers ALWAYS use the "im away from home" bullshit. An agent just makes it even more sketch. Delete and ignore. And its a TV? Why does someone offshore want to buy a TV for their son when they can get one new themselves? I think if he was on an offshore petroleum engineer, he wouldn't be on Vancouver's CL looking for a TV. Connect the dots man. These people are messed up. Nigerian money scammers are scum. |
I think you should go for it and see what happens. |

but seriously people still make these fucking threads? Let me ask you something. What is common sense to you? Ps: I don't know what the price of your tv is, but by judging of you making this thread, it's way too much. |
Kinda knew it was a scam. Just weird cuz its the other way around cuz hes the one sending money. Thanks anyway. Ps: Ya too much for you |
Dont be so hard on the guy. I'd rather him ask on the forum than for that nigerian scammer to take his money. |
well that's usually what these local forums are for. support your fellow RSer! |
nice try to troll OP, guess didnt get the big results you were hoping for. Troll out |
I had good luck with one of these. I sold a PS3 to a guy who was overseas, but wanted my low low price, so I shipped the PS3 to his son in nigeria (he was going to school there) paypal went through and I sent the PS3. 2 years now with no problems. not all nigerians are scammers, that's just racist. |

I never stated that ALL nigerians are scammers, I stated that a lot of nigerian money scammers USE the overseas/agent/son excuse. |
some key words "buying this for my son" "petroleum engineer" - who gives a shit? "offshore" mmm okay "phone line down due to bad weather" LOLOL |
He won't send you money. I played around once when I was selling my car. They ask for you bank info and for you to pay a delivery fee or some shit to their account before they pay you. Posted via RS Mobile |
Petroleum Engineer buying used...lol |
I like playing around with these guys. They ask for your PayPal e-mail address and you immediately get 2 e-mails back from them (which are fake PayPal e-mails that use PayPal logos and look official). The first one usually says the money is in your PayPal account, but won't be released until the item is shipped. The other is usually one telling you where to ship the item and to make sure to send the tracking number. Oh yeah, and they always want it shipped overnight and they add on an extra $100 to cover your courier costs/ What's really funny is sending an e-mail that doesn't have any PayPal account attached and getting the PayPal "you're money is ready" e-mail back. They don't even bother to check if your e-mail really is a PayPal e-mail. After a few e-mails I let them know I knew they were fucking scammers from the start and I had fun wasting their time and getting their hopes up. |
Always meet up in person and ask for cash. Avoid all these problems and complications. |
LOL follow through see what happens |
Told him I live in a cave so it would be hard for the agent to come pick it up. |

how much:) |
It's craigslist. You meet, you take money, you give TV. Done. The transaction shouldn't be any more complicated than that. |
