MS Word vs. Openoffice Writer

Is there a way where I can make my documents look consistent when using these two word processing software interchangeably?

I find that when I open my word documents in open office the layout looks completely different, the same happens vice versa, even though I am using the same extensions (.docx).

I am using Windows 7 on my desktop, but I use Jolicloud (linux) on my netbook, so I would like it to look the same across the board.

Thanks!

I prefer not to, cause I like MS Word more. I barely know how to use Writer; unfortunately, I can't install MS Office with Jolicloud.

How about using Google Docs, if you're using Jolicoud?

Maybe if you used a really old backwards compatible mode when using Word, like "Word 97 compatible" it would work better?
