New Computer for Bedroom

Hey, i've been out of the scene for a while. My last computer was like 5 yrs ago Desperately need an update. I'm in Hong Kong by the way, if that matters.

Need to be super quiet. It's for my bedroom.
It's most likely be ON for 24/7.
matx or itx only (no room for ATX

Which one is more quieter? Amd or intel?
Hopefully it's gonna be good for another 3-5 years.

This computer is for HDTV, hd 1080p movies, divx, pps, iso, rmvb, DVDs, bt, office words/excel, Facebook games and simple online game.

It needs:
both hdmi (37" tv) and DVI (23" mon) output
Need HD tv card ( USB or pci? Better?) ((**for Hong Kong **))
Need wifi (USB or pci?)
4g ram? Or 2g ram ok?

Maybe SSD if still have money left

There's a guy who suggested the following too : what do you guys think?
Prices are in HK$ sorry.

RAM:Samsung DDR3-1333 4GB $340

MB: ASUS E35M1-I DELUXE $1480

HD: Samsung HM640JJ 2.5" 640GB 7200R $605

DVD: TEAC DV-W28SS-R93 $330

Case + PS: Gigabyte MW-100 w/ 60W external $380

TV Card: Magic-Pro ProHDTV Multi $280

WIFI Card: TP-LINK TL-WN821N $140

Total: $3555

Comments and suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks for all the help!~

Is something like this available over there:

http://ca.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=o1amfrA5GP8YRShl

would save you some space and has HDMI in.

do you not need a CPU?or maybe I am blind haha

I think it's recommended to go with 4g if you plan to watch 1080p movies
also if you are going to use 4g of ram you should run a 64 bit OS

I don't have any other suggestions because I am not from HK nor dealt with those parts before

^ it's an AMD fusion board. Good choice for absolute quiet PC.

Not sure about this board, but I do see some ultra small ATX comes with Wifi.
If storage is not a problem, of course get SSD.

I have the same TV card, no complaint

A mac mini fits your needs. Quiet, somewhat fast, and enough for what you do. Runs Windows too if you really want to.

Really? Mac's eh? I can't believe this. 5 years ago, i don't think anyone would recommend a mac to anyone. I guess they've come a long way since then. I'll take a look at them. Thanks guys.

Please let me know if there are any MATX options~

How much time do you plan on spending on watching shows, and the other stuff you listed? do you have a laptop? or even a tablet or smartphone?

have you considered something like a media player (Asus O!play or patriot etc.)?

increasingly i see ppl doing web-surfing on a tablet or their phone in their bedroom, while the tv is on cable or a media player. and all those things are silent.

guess it all depends on if you have a main computer or not.

just my 2 cents.

you live in the country where the Golden Computer Mall/Arcade and the Mong Kok computer mall exist, and you aren't going there to ask? There are a shit load of options there if you go and take a look.....

^the sole reason I'm asking online is because those places exist.

If you didn't do your 'homework' before going shopping at those malls, you'll be paying through your shxt hole for shxtty last year parts.

So for fellow visitors. Be warned.

It's hong kong, no one shall be trusted. Especially computer sales.

But thanks form the input guys. I think I'm gonna get that itx list.

from what you are describing, a modified mac mini is probably a contender...change the drive to an ssd if you prefer, some additional ram if it is not maxed out (so get the cheaper mac)...

you're probably looking at 1200 with the upgrades...canadian buckaroos

Yeah $1200 is totally overkill when 1/2 that is enough.
