Another Car Broken Into....Almost Well, today I found out my car was almost broken into, in my own underground parking. The driver side lock cylinder is missing from what looks like a shitty lock picking job. Besides the lock cylinder, the sheet metal is also dented in a little, and there's a crack in the paint. Just posting to get some opinions on my options. Should I just pay out of my own pocket? Or should I pay the $300 deductible and let ICBC handle this? (e46 M3) I don't know what to do at this point, since it's not something very serious, but at the same time this kind of shit really fucks with you... Thanks in advance for all your inputs! Here are a couple of pictures: http://i.imgur.com/eliM1.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ASpBJ.jpg Edit: also thinking about buying one of these http://www.bimmian.com/46/KHC/ |
This happened to my car, too. I didn't notice that until i brought my car to service. I'd say just get a key hole delete. |

Someone broke into my van the same way a couple days ago. Icbc will probably be cheaper, but go around and get a quote first. |
If you get one of those little bottles of clear coat from Canadian Tire with either the pen type tip or a little paint brush...put some clear over the crack and that will prevent any metal from being exposed (and prone to rust) just to be safe. Then just get the keyhole delete to cover the lock and get those paint matched (could ask the paint shop to do the clear on the crack if you're not comfortable with the paint yourself) That would be my choice as it's not worth paying the $300 for such a small little ding :( |
can the guy in the keyhole video stutter any more? |
I am surprised that the thief didn't turn the screw clockwise and hold.. that would have rolled down the windows. You can get the plug and get ICBC claim.. then bring the plug to the paint shop when you get your scratch repainted.. However it sucks to be silver because it is very hard to match.. |
There is a mod that will actually cover this up from your car to give it a clean look and prevent stuff like this from happening. Looks like this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=handle |
Yep, I ordered the part from Crevier in the States... it comes primed and ready for paint.. the thing has a good heft to it too! Quote:

I think Bimmian may have the colour already for you. Not sure but I remember that when I was looking into it. |

get a quote to see how much it would cost. Might save you the hassle |
I've seen a few m3's broken into this way. Not sure how hard they would be to drive off with at that point. |

Hard to drive off, but easy to open. It is a well known security problem that afflict all late 90s early 0x BMW, VW etc. Quote:

The E46's were notoriously easy to break into. It would also disengage the factory alarm. Get the keyhole cover. It will help alot. Depending what year your car is you should be able to order it straight from BMW. I just ordered the cover for the driver side passenger door of the sedan. I think it was an allen key. Took like 10 mins to do myself. I don't really remember how much it costed me. I think $70. I could be wrong. More or less exactly like this: |
mind tell me which area is this ? |
Just a random question but do you have a factory alarm or are pre-wired for one? Just asking because I was thinking of getting a remotekey+ and if you were interested, we could combine shipping on it. |
