So, a light shake?

Culverin 04-19-2011 01:04 AM

Didn't we have a pretty big one in Vancouver in 1999 or 2000?
I remember it was enough to ground shake, stuff rattle and the lights sway when I was sitting in class. I wonder how big that was.

ShadowBun 04-19-2011 01:07 AM

^i didnt even felt that one.
how big was that one?

cococly 04-19-2011 01:12 AM

It is not a biggy for Sanfran, some people might not have felt it at all.

Ya, I remember I woke up to the dogs going nuts and barking. I thought I was dizzy cause it felt like my bed was shaking but didn't think much about it after that. I got to school and some classmates were like, did you feel the earthquake? I think it was 2000 or 2001.

ShadowBun 04-19-2011 01:28 AM

^lol

@AK got it off Taiwanese thread ages ago.

murd0c 04-19-2011 03:09 AM

Wtf making a thread for a 3.4?

PornMaster 04-19-2011 04:36 AM

OP you complain about people making threads about Mcdonald deals :failed:

Ronin 04-19-2011 06:29 AM

3.4? Are you kidding me? People probably didn't even notice. 3.4 is like sitting on a wobbly chair. You get more shakes driving down a shitty road.

vafanculo 04-19-2011 07:18 AM

This is equivalent to someone in SanFran making a thread that it's raining in Vancouver.

It's just that common, and not that big of a deal.

Reminds me of that scene from Independence Day - "Is that a earthquake?" "Not even a four-pointer, go back to sleep."

CP.AR 04-19-2011 11:12 AM

dude 3.4 is like a light truck passing by your house

That one was a 6.4 in Tacoma I think it was 2001 cause I remember my daughter was pretty small but old enough to be freaked out by it.

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...uakes_all.html

For a list of earth quakes in the last 7 days. They happen ALL THE TIME. The only one of concern is the 6.6 off the coast of Australia (you'll see it, it's red).

Hondaracer 04-19-2011 11:25 AM

earthquakes are so last month

TheNewGirl 04-19-2011 11:40 AM

Not even that much shaking! A 3.4 is less shaking then a train coming by your house.

Less than 2.0 Micro Microearthquakes, not felt. About 8,000 per day

2.0-2.9 Minor Generally not felt, but recorded. About 1,000 per day

3.0-3.9 Often felt, but rarely causes damage. 49,000 per year (est.)

4.0-4.9 Light Noticeable shaking of indoor items, rattling noises.
Significant damage unlikely. 6,200 per year (est.)

5.0-5.9 Moderate Can cause major damage to poorly constructed buildings over small regions. At most slight damage to well-designed buildings. 800 per year

6.0-6.9 Strong Can be destructive in areas up to about 160 kilometres (100 mi) across in populated areas. 120 per year

7.0-7.9 Major Can cause serious damage over larger areas. 18 per year

8.0-8.9 Great Can cause serious damage in areas several hundred miles across. 1 per year

9.0-9.9 Devastating in areas several thousand miles across.
1 per 20 years

10.0+ Epic Never recorded; see below for equivalent seismic energy yield. Extremely rare (Unknown)

these are all under the new scale right? not the outdated richter scale.
