Anyone Have a Kindle?

I've been recently having a itch to read more novels lately soon I have been looking at getting a Kindle 3. Does anyone have this device here? Any thoughts?

The problem with the kindle is you have to buy from Amazon. For that reason I went with a Sony reader and I it because I can buy my books from Sony's store or Kobo (which tends to have the best pricing). This gave me access to the best selection of books and the best pricing.

The Kobo reader's also pretty damned affordable. I opted for the Sony instead because it's got a metal frame and is more sturdy and the thing is in my purse or in a bag often and I wanted something I wasn't worried about getting broken if it got knocked around. Also the Sony allows me to load PDFs and other work related documents on it, not that I use it that way often but it has come in handy before for short meetings.

If you're mostly going to use it at home, any of the big three would work well for you I'm sure. But price match a bit between Amazon and Kobo on the kinds of books you like to read and their selection.

If you're actually just going to read with it, then I would recommend something that uses e-ink, as it's similar to reading print on paper, and battery will last WAY longer.

I don't use the Kindle personally, but my sister has gone through 2 already. The screen ends up freezing and unusable. They don't seem to be very robust if you are going to be traveling around with it like my sister does. Google it as it does not seem to be an isolated issue.

I bought my mom the black and white Nook down in the states. She's not that technologically savvy so I just put in her credit card on the B&N site online and she buy's whatever she wants and gets it instantly. Battery is amazing and the display is clear as hell cause of the e-ink.

Get the Colour as listed above and root it cause it uses Android haha. But then you'll get distracted and end up using it as a tablet. Counter intuitive.

That's why I went with the Sony. I charge it up once or twice a week and that's it. It's black and white but in all honesty that's better on my eyes for reading since I'm in front of a comp all day already. When I am traveling I never have to worry about it losing it's charge half way through a flight or anything crazy like that either.

Jsunu, I would totally recommend going down to future shop and to Chapters and playing with some of the demo ones they have set up, see what's comfortable for you. For example my sister doesn't like mine cause it's heavy (since it's metal frame) but I hate her Kobo cause I find it flimsy (cause it's plastic) and doesn't feel as much like a book in my hand.

Different quarks like that will change how you feel about it, and especially if you read a lot, that is important.

Also important is what kind of media do you want to get on it? Only books? Do you want to be able to read PDFs? Do you want to be able to subscribe to digital news papers? That sort of stuff will impact your choice too.

I need to do a combination of things pdf/books/subs. But more I realize that 6 inch screen maybe too small for the PDFs I need to use. I think Ill do more hands on research, ie go to futureshop/chapters/sony and see what is out there.

Yeah. The larger Sony (the Sony Daily edition) might be a better choice for you. We got my Mom's for her at the Sony Outlet down in Bellingham.

If you're doing a lot of PDF stuff rather then reading book books, you may want to look at the Blackberry Playbook. It's a bit bigger than an Ebook reader but still small enough to be very easily portable.

I just wanted to make a post from the Kindle, and say that if you're desperate for RS, you can text-browse the forum, wherever you can get a cell signal. Of course, the Kindle needs to be a 3G version.

Tigerdirect also has it for $289. But the viewing angles are crappy on this.
