A huge brawl erupted at the Boys AAA provincial soccer tournament in Burnaby Friday afternoon, after Coquitlam's Dr. Charles Best Secondary beat North Delta Secondary 3-2 in overtime.

Spectators, players, coaches and parents were involved in the mass physical altercation after a Coquitlam fan began taunting the losing team.

The fan was knocked to the ground and was kicked several times.

After the fight calmed down and everyone was separated, a male teacher asked the beaten youth if he was all right.

"I'm f-----g awesome and it's okay. I've already got a (championship) ring."

The teacher then grabbed him and asked someone to see if they could find his parents.

The youth struggled and broke free of the teacher's grip, jumped the gate surrounding the soccer field, and casually walked away.

About nine RCMP cars responded to a 911 call from the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex.

Unless more madness ensued than stated in the article, how does THAT qualify as a "huge brawl"?

nine RCMP cars... rofl

I bet there would be less RCMP cars showing up if it was a shooting incident.

scottsman 05-06-2011 10:45 PM

The guy is pretty much asking for it from the look of the pics.

parm104 05-06-2011 11:13 PM

Alright, the guy who was taunting the other team may have been pushing it over-board but the other team LOST! North Delta had the opportunity to still be proud of making it to the Provincial finals but after they resorted to fighting a fan they certainly have NO CLASS.

Fans are not obligated to hold certain codes of conduct. Of course the usual obscene language or gestures would be inappropriate, but they are not sanctioned by any set of rules. Players however DO have a set of rules to abide by. Although I wasn't there, it appears from the pictures that the white guy was taunting the other team's FANS after a loss and the players went buck wild on him. I'm sure there must have been a rivalry between the fans all throughout the game. I'm sure the taunting was probably going both ways all throughout the game. At the end of the game however, the emotions are no longer even. One team will continue to taunt (BECAUSE THEY HAVE REASON TO) while the other team is upset over a loss. Just because you lose doesn't mean you have the right to now resort to PHYSICAL VIOLENCE after being taunted by WORDS.

Real sportsmanship is just disappearing these days.

IT just seems to get worse now.
It is up to the coaches to teach their kids the value of sportsmanship

you guys think there is chivalry at a HIGH SCHOOL sports event where fans from oposing sides come out for their team?

when we had our hockey games 3/4 of the kids who came out to watch were drinking in the parking lot or drinking inside the arena, people take pokes at either side and the next thing you know people are getting kicked down flights of stairs lol

high schoolers + alchohol = worried about personal honor right? lol..

bloodmack 05-07-2011 02:20 PM

As soon as i read high schoolers and so EI's losing.. no surprise lol.. they need to chill and smoke some green :hat:

I wonder if it's just PUBLIC SCHOOL high students + alcohol = no worries about personal honor.

In my 6 years of high school (Private School), I had NEVER once experienced something like this. I was a loud mouth, lippy kid who taunted other schools when I attended my little brother's games as well. Not once did anyone get into a physical altercation.

Anyone else from a Private School have an experience that states otherwise?
