skytrain violation ticket disputing

any one got caught and disputed it and won?
I got caught recently and have not done anything with it yet. I was caught by new westminister station. Said I bought a ticket and lost it. They don't have proof of me.. Any ideas on how to dispute and any stories of you winning or losing?

Did you actually buy the ticket and lose it or were you actually riding without fare?

Regardless, if you do not have proof of fare when they checked you, you're hooped.

HansonBoy 05-12-2011 10:16 PM

They must be cracking down on this. I remember last year i saw someone get checked and didnt have a ticket, he was simply asked to get off at the next stop.

Vale46Rossi 05-12-2011 10:23 PM

I want to fail you but I cant.

Pay the ticket.

and then he got a ticket...

wing_woo 05-13-2011 11:30 AM

Seriously, you didn't pay and you got caught and you want to fight the ticket? I pay everytime I ride the skytrain and it actually annoys me when people hop on for free and get away with it. I can't wait till they install turnstiles at the stations or whatever it is they are planning so that people can't hop on for free anymore.

I literally just forgot, I was away from the country for awhile.

But that doesn't really justify you trying to dispute it.....

Don't treat this section as a way to get away with things you actually committed, I believe this is for people who actually have a valid argument against their fine/sentence/etc. Otherwise you may just be wasting people's time/money.

Did you forget you cannot steal? murder? ... probably not.

Pay the ticket, and please next time use this forum for legitimate disputes, not excuses.

Dispute it, admit that you hopped fare, say you won't do it again and say the fine is too much, and you don't have money to pay for it, then you will get it severely reduced.

And you might get it reduced....

LP700-4 05-14-2011 04:33 PM

Save $1.75, pay $175

A friend got caught, disputed and got fine reduced to bout $50 for first time caught.....

But seriously, the machines at the stations are there for a reason......

RevRav 05-14-2011 04:46 PM

Instead of reducing....they should INCREASE the fine for people like you that comes up with lame excuses of "I was out of town...." What a waste of Translink's labour and time.

PAY THE DAMN TICKET. :gtfo:

xilley 05-14-2011 06:00 PM

Actually $173, but add the $1.75 to get to the rest of your destination.

What if you dont have any ID on you.. and then give them a Fake Name.

I have always wondered what would happen.. How can they give you a ticket if they dont know who you are..

This is an honest question.. what does transit authory do in this situation?

zulutango 05-17-2011 02:55 PM

If found committing a summary conviction offence they can arrest you until your identity is proved...one of the 4 conditions to allow arresting in those circumstances. They can't release you for court purposes until they know who is being processed. Give them a false name and now you are looking at a CC obstruction change as well as offence act ticket.

i've only heard stories of people getting tickets, usually the day after new years eve when it's no longer free, or after an olympic hockey event.

What if you were to not have ID on you and refuse to say who you are..

How would they ID you.. would you be held until you confessed who you were. what if you didnt confess.. would your Photo be released on the News in hopes someone would ID you? all over $175 ticket?

again im serious about this question..

zulutango 05-18-2011 03:18 PM

How long do you want to spend in jail? They cannot release you for court process unless they can positively identify you. How much "quality time" do you want to spend with Bubba anyway?
