There are a few ayce sushi places around that do offer "fresh" oysters but I don't find them that fresh they are generally pre shucked and sit on ice thus loosing some of the flavour

I like boathouse happy hour because you can request Kumamoto and Kusshi oysters for $1/each. You can't even buy them for that price at the Lobsterman

When I asked about it last time, they didnt have kumamotos for $1.
Which one did you go to?

LiquidTurbo 05-20-2011 07:18 PM

^ Ya I just went to Boathouse in Richmond and they didn't have them...

3 of us....

2 dozen oysters

2 crabs (due to too small)

1 deep fried oysters

1 garlic prawn....

Bill came up to $267.... super expensive

and they charged me 18% tip automatically even though I did not have a party of 6 or more....

Food was very good but was no one was full and very expensive.

We did not have any drinks too.

I go there for their happy hour and I find it expensive, nevermind for their regular price. LOL

Though I do eat like a dozen oysters to myself.. lol

i just never get tired of it

Tried the Oysters @ Aki, a Japanese place downtown on Thurlow. The place is a real gem.

This was 5.50, which I thought was a pretty good deal. Fresh raw oysters dressed in their Ponzu sauce!

Boathouse also has happy hour, 3-6pm, $1/oyster.
There's also the recently opened RawBar on Howe st.

Oyster Seafood & Raw Bar also offers $1/oyster on Fridays during Happy Hour. Place is a little cramped but decent.

I usually go to Aki when I'm downtown. It really is a real gem.

I know this is a thread for fresh raw oysters (which I love), but as a side question, where are the best places to get Oyster Rockefellers?

Obsideon 05-30-2011 04:24 PM

Ebisu on Robson sells Royal Miyagi's at a very reasonable price and are guaranteed super fresh, we sell hundreds every night so we get new stock daily (inside note: from the same supplier as many "top-end" oyster bars)
People who pay a premium price for the same oyster are just kidding themselves into thinking it's "better". I've seen Royal Miyagi on the fresh sheet at Joe Fortes and Rodney's going for close to $3 per piece ($18 for half a dozen) and they can't possibly be any "fresher" than any other "good" restaurant unless they dive into the ocean to dig them up as soon as you place your order. Ebisu's oyster sell so fast, they are shucked only when you order them, they don't sit in the restaurant for more than hours at a time. Ebisu sells it for $16 for a dozen, during Happy Hour it's even cheaper, 99 cents per piece.

My 2 cents. :)

Oyster - Seafood and Rawbar was pretty good. $1/oyster all day from what the waitress told me, cool little spot, very few seats but I enjoyed the raw oysters! The $1 ones are not given a choice of which you get, but they will include some of the more expensive per oyster ones. Their $36 for 18 oysters will net you more of the fancy ones.

BlackZRoadster 05-31-2011 10:25 PM

What's this place called ? Oyster?

Miyagi's for a buck-a-shuck? NICE. When's your happy hour? Weekdays only?

I went to Oyster yesterday too. Daily happy hour 3-7pm, $1/oyster. Ridiculously small place, but very intimate.

there used to be a restaurant on Oak and 16th offers a lot of different oyster dishes and had a good selection of half shells .. I remember they made very good oyster rockfellers .. anyone here know which one I am talking about and where did they moved to or simply closed down?

Obsideon 06-01-2011 03:13 PM

Happy Hour runs from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, 7 days a week :D

I must make a point to go check out that "Oyster" place, sounds like a great little spot. As much as I love Ebisu I don't feel like coming back to the place that I spend 60+ hours a week to eat haha :p

pherio 06-02-2011 09:13 AM

Does Boathouse still have their buck-a-shuck going on?

Thanks for keeping happy hour past 6pm, it's hard to get downtown after school/work to make it on time. Oyster is really small, I counted 20 seats total.

Yep, I just posted it today!

At every Boathouse location, oysters are $1 each during happy hour 3-6pm, and may vary according to season and availability...

...
One catch is that a minimum $2.99 beverage must be purchased, which is easy to do as they have $4.99 drink specials everyday.

Happy Hour "Buck a Shuck" @ Boathouse New Westminster

I'm never paying a premium for oysters again, happy hour is the true price! :P

Shorn 06-02-2011 12:06 PM

Joe Fortes was pretty good. I didn't know which type of oyster to get and the server gave us a platter with all different kinds and explained them. haha.

Obsideon 06-02-2011 01:12 PM

^ but it cost you an arm and a leg, and maybe your other leg too right? ;)
