Mustang vs 370Z

http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg863/sca...=640&ysize=640

Why would you ever pick the 370Z over the Mustang?

Fafine 05-23-2011 10:46 PM

those must be american prices

OBD1 05-23-2011 10:49 PM

I'd take the Z hands down.

apple_cutie 05-23-2011 10:51 PM

Lets use Canadian pricing then,

370Z: $42,668.00
Mustang: $41,719.00

Both are standard models with no options

:/

at least the interior is not made out of recycled cardboard on the 370Z...

tonyvu 05-24-2011 12:25 AM

sorry... mustangs are ugly

Djiban 05-24-2011 12:29 AM

^ not just mustangs, but all north american cars are.

The fact that it has ~100 more hp doesn't mean shit here. With the speed limits that we have, we can't drive fast enough without worrying for a speeding ticket.

Roach 05-24-2011 12:29 AM

To answer your question, the merit of a car is not based on how much hp it has.

One of the best cars I've ever driven was an early 90's Miata. While I barely encroached on the speed limit, it gave me an experience I will never forget. Yet, I doubt that car had more than 140hp.

To understand a car, you have to drive it and appreciate it's inherent qualities. Not what you read on a piece of paper.

Your comparison, is like comparing two women: Both have similar qualities, yet one likes to fuck 5 times a day. The other, only likes to fuck once a day. Yet, you aren't taking into account the experience the latter one may give you.

If you're all for easy thrills, perhaps 4xx hp might please you. For others, they will take less horsepower for an overall driving experience that pleases them.

And for the record, I love both cars.

Yup, a car isn't all about the numbers. The Mustang looks really impressive on paper. I can't comment on how the cars feel because I haven't driven either.

But I can say that in my opinion the 370z looks better and I can see myself driving it. The Mustang not so much but that just me.

OBD1 05-24-2011 01:47 AM

Mustangs handle like an overpowered log.

mmmk 05-24-2011 02:14 AM

OP, u actually took the time to make that .jpg??
:speechless:

and also, are you thinking about getting a mustang? if not, why do you even care??

dangonay 05-24-2011 04:56 AM

If you are more concerned about looking good (subjective, but let's go with it) get the 370Z.

If you are more concerned about performance (factual, numbers don't lie), get the Mustang GT.

cdizzle_996 05-24-2011 06:23 AM

Im not a Mustang fanboy, but has anyone actually driven the new Mustang 5.0? I have, and I was impressed.

I doubt ricescene has sat in one let alone driven the new mustang, after driving the fiesta which I really didn't like I was surprised by the 5.0, too bad the discounts aren't the same as a few years ago :( but yeah in typical ricescene fashion bandwagoners go "Ooooohhhhh American cars!! shitty interior, handles like a boat, poor fuel economy, NASsssttayyyy" They won't know anything about a car if it doesn't have VTAKkkkk

Lol that price you gave for the mustang includes tax
That alone is a 4k difference...

Gridlock 05-24-2011 07:39 AM

I will say that the clear winner in the meltdown of the US automakers, Ford was a clear winner.

First..no gov't money. Huge win.

Second...their lineup works. You start debadging cars, and ford is in the realm of import cars.

I remember when the cobalt first game out, my gf and I were looking at it.

The salesman was all excited that he was gonna make a sale.

Starts filling out paperwork. I stop him and I'm like "dude, we haven't even talked money".

Oh, well its 15xxx. Sticker price.

Um, no its not. That is a fancy name for a caviler. A cavalier that is going to depreciate like nothing else. In 5 years, I'm not going to be underwater on a car payment for a crappy cavalier. At that time we were already close to being underwater on her stupid dakota that she paid sticker for.

We walked. And GM went bankrupt. Shocking.

Driving a ford right now doesn't have that same stigma of driving a pos american car.

And good on them for it.

Doesn't hold a candle? Really?
0-60 yields a difference of 0.4 yes, but they post nearly identical 60-0 braking times (and this is the Mustang fitted with Brembo package), and the 370z pulls more G's.
In a straight line, yeah, 370z has no chance, but on a track (given its one without ridiculously long straights), no way a decent driver in a 370 couldn't pull away from the Mustang.

Have you sat in both of these cars? Have you driven both of these cars?
I have, and I can tell you that I would have no trouble believing a Mustang outlapped a 370z; but at least to the level of my driving ability, the difference in performance between the two cars to me, was negligible.
So no the Mustang doesn't handle like a log, nor does it get crappy fuel economy, but it has THE shittiest interior. If you think otherwise, you need to sit in more cars.
The 370z might not have the nicest interior around either, but at least the fit and finish is half decent; the Mustang was a mess everywhere.
Fit and finish was horrible, ergonomics of the shifter was horrible (in terms of being awkwardly positioned; this was the manual, not the auto); when I drove the car hard, I wasn't scared of flying off the road as much as I was of having the dash and console flying off or even imploding.

A good car is a good car, it's personal preference that dictates which to choose.
If I was looking for a second, weekend car/track toy; then hands down Mustang. But if it was going to be my only car, given that I only need a 2-seater; hands down 370z. Usually when looking at cars, I just want the best performing vehicle in my budget, no matter how marginally better, but my experience inside the Mustang was so bad (the interior itself that is, not driving, driving it was a blast), I would go for second best.

And I'm by no means a Ford hater, I'm looking into adding a Raptor to my garage right now, that or emptying my garage for a new sports car and a Ranger instead :fullofwin:

Nlkko 05-24-2011 11:33 AM

The NEW Mustangs have much much better handling. And you can't beat their prices.

You may not dig their styling but the new Stangs are a clear winner in terms of performance and price.

Japanese automakers have outpriced themselves. It's time for them to come back to Earth.

Yet it has posted marginally better road course times than a BMW M3. What does that say about the BMW?

For the prices in America, why would anyone in Vancouver buy the Mustang here?

hk20000 05-25-2011 09:57 AM

If you are to import a Ford from the States will Ford give up their recall papers and all other paperwork as easily as some other automakers do?

Interesting that most Mustangs out there seem to be local cars.

xpl0sive 05-25-2011 10:45 AM

i don't understand why everyone brings up track times... how often are any of your going to take your brand new 370z or mustang 5.0 to the track to do some laps in... i'm guessing never. but how often are you going to be on the highway or at a light and need to accelerate to pass/merge... almost every time you drive. now i hate mustangs i think they are POS and d-bags drive them, but in the real world, the mustang wins hands down, simply by the numbers. it has more power, costs less and maintenance is less expensive as well... if i were in the market for a brand new 2 door under $40k, i would seriously consider the 5.0...

flagella 05-25-2011 12:01 PM

Why are you guys keep saying the gas mileage for 5.0 is good? Those highway mileages really mean nothing here since most of the people drive in the city, and even on highway a lot of times it's congested. Plus we have pretty shitty highway system here.
