The trouble with that comparison is the limitless sections of the Autobahns really are safer roads. Better design, quickly repaired (how many times do we drive over the same potholes around here?) and better protected from wildlife, etc... They also use variable speed limits in other sections based on traffic and weather conditions, etc..

I don't think Mrs. I need to put on my makeup in the car and Mr. I need to text while driving can really handle roads with no speed limits. But I sam saying that the speed limits around here are under posted, and a study of BC roads and speed limits also reached the same conclusion, while also proving that the higher speed limits in test zones bucked the national trend and led to a reduction in collisions.

There's really no point arguing whether driving the speed limit is safer or not. You can drive reasonably above the posted speed limit and not raise your risk significantly. I'd rather be an attentive driver driving above a posted speed limit rather than an inattentive driver dulled by the boredom of sticking to whatever limit happens to be posted on a sign.
