What you shouldn't do to your car door

TheKingdom2000 05-28-2011 11:45 AM

This guy makes a very good point. German cars are built very strong, the doors anyways.

In my experience, only my friends who do not own a German car will ALWAYS slam my car door so effing hard.
It's really annoying. I assume with honda's and corolla's their doors are rather light and when you slam it shut it doesn't make much of a noise? So when I drop off friends and they get out of my car they SLAM my door. With my car, you don't even need to swing it closed, after you pass a certain point the weight and inertia of the door will close on it's own. It's not an automatic door, but the way it's designed coupled with it's weight closes automatically.

It's annoying because they always say sorry when they do it because it makes such a loud noise, but the next time I drop them off or I drive they do it again

^^ +1
I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN. even more so with the coupe doors T.T

dlo 05-28-2011 01:01 PM

yeah i drive a fuckin toyota and my friend slam my door liek crazy -.- what the fuck, its unnecessary

Groot 05-28-2011 01:41 PM

ya my friend slams the door so fucking hard its like hes taking the anger out on my car =( so damn annoying

twitchyzero 05-28-2011 02:03 PM

i always slam my friend's trunk unintentionally because the ones on SUV's, minivans, wagons, hatchbacks there's resistance when closing the trunk.

BNR32_Coupe 05-28-2011 02:05 PM

i did this to my e36 and the door fell off then i had to book an appointment to get it replaced and it will cost $100 in labour and $200 for the door from the wreckers

OTG-ZR2 05-28-2011 02:06 PM

+ one for getting my door slammed by everyone else.

Anyways, I got backed into last night and a huge dent on my door. Now it doesn't close properly so I have to slam it :fuuuuu:

orange7 05-28-2011 02:10 PM

ya.. how should I deal with ppl who slam my door really hard?

bloodmack 05-28-2011 02:32 PM

Slamming my door is really bad because theres no frame around the window, so if you slam hard enough you could shatter my window.

lol it's even worse when they push the window to close the door.

My dad's car is also like yours, no frame around the window.
He had to get the passenger window fixed last year as it didn't roll up anymore because it kept getting stuck. And people slamming the door and closing the door by the window is the only explanation I have for the window getting stuck.

He never says anything to them though.

Run over their foot

insomniac 05-28-2011 07:37 PM

lol my honda's door is so cheaply built. its so light and its like entirely made out of plastic lol. everytime i get into my dads car or ilvtofu's car i try to close it like how i normally close a door and it closes halfways so i have to open and close the door again. the guy in the video makes a point, german cars are built pretty tough. this is why im starting to dislike japanese cars. like i said before, the honda's door is so light.. i always imagine getting t-boned and i just dont feel safe in one. both my parents cars have so much grip when turning but in the honda, the body roll is so bad i feel like its gonna roll over when i make a fast turn.. im starting to understand why my dad hates japanese cars.

Volvo-brickster 05-28-2011 09:35 PM

i was really really hoping the sales guy would slip, fall and nut himself on the door frame

orange7 05-28-2011 09:49 PM

Lexus is japanese and the quality is comparable to the german

quasi 05-28-2011 10:23 PM

Anyone else think the door was going to break and he was going to get nutted when jumping up and down straddling the door? Was rather anti-climatic and somewhat of a disappointment when it held up.

palepilsenpin0y 05-28-2011 11:00 PM

Don't you also just fucking hate it when your friend opens your door and starts jumping up and down on top of it like a mad man? The last time my friend did that to my Corolla's front door, it fell right off! What a pain!

Thanks Volkswagon!! I can always rely on your sturdy doors every time I jump and ride on top of one!

Matlock 05-28-2011 11:10 PM

I really wanted the door to fall off...

Euro7r 05-29-2011 01:34 AM

I deal with door slamming ppl by never driving them again. :troll:

slammer111 05-29-2011 03:34 AM

The car sales guy (Mercedes) did basically the same 2 things when selling me my current car. He rolled down the window and threw his entire weight onto the sill. While rocking the car, he asked me to try doing the same thing at the Acura dealership down the street (I was also considering TSX). I admit it worked. I did factor in door sturdiness into my buying decision.

Actually I find I slam the doors on Japanese cars often, because I forget how light their doors are.

On a side note, this guy I know (Jap car freak) used to blow up at me all the time when I slammed anything on his Honda, saying eventually the door would misalign/break off. Just wondering if anyone here on RS has experienced such a problem (corrosion doesn't count).

elkayem 05-29-2011 03:44 AM

Am I the only one who came into this thread expecting to see some idiot destorying their own car's door? =(

my gf slams my car doors
my mom also slams my car doors and trunk and her shoes keep smashing against my interior when she get in and out... oh the pain.
some of my friends do it too... i dont even bother commenting anymore....
only my friends that are cars enthusiasts close it with just enough power for it to shut properly.....

Matlock 05-29-2011 08:55 AM

For my own entertainment purposes, I would now like to see 4 people jumping up and down on top of each door of a 4 door.

The person who makes this video will automatically get a like on their post.

AzNightmare 05-31-2011 12:06 AM

I think almost every car after like year 2002 or something that I have tried have heavy enough doors that just close fine on their own without much force, whether it's a honda, or volkswagen, etc.
