Mandatory Court Date In washington

Should I get a lawyer for this? I was caught with a suspended bc license in washignton state... My court date is in 2 weeks, and I was curious if I can face jailtime for this?

vafanculo 05-28-2011 04:46 PM

dont take anyone's advice on here..go atleast contact a lawyer, see what they say

mmmk 05-28-2011 04:49 PM

i'd speak to a lawyer and ask them for their advice...in fact, speak to 2-3 lawyers and see what they got to say

optiblue 05-28-2011 05:36 PM

Yeah, lawyer up. No one here can help you.

how would Washington state know if your BC license is suspended? I would assume the two systems are not connected.

CRS 05-28-2011 05:42 PM

What every has said so far.

Need to lawyer up. I wouldn't trust the posts here since I doubt there are many RS posters who know about laws and how they apply in the states especially how they apply when it is international infractions.

LiquidTurbo 05-28-2011 08:13 PM

Wrong forum, bro.

Meowjin 05-28-2011 08:18 PM

no,, my bc license is suspended in washington state from a ticket from 07 that I never payed.

I don't know what to do. I don't know if this is a court thing where I'll just be forced to pay tickets or is this a court thing where a jail sentance can be recomended.

ignore my bad grammer. My health has failed this week and my doctor is giving me some bad news

I'm a not lawyer and may not be reading it right but it looks like if you are convicted, you will be sentenced to a minimum of 10 days in jail. Also looks like it depends on why you are suspended in the first place.

Call a lawyer in Washington asap.

Jayboogz 05-28-2011 08:32 PM

Dude you shoulda paid your ticket if you ever plan to go back to the states!! From what I understand from my relatives in the US unpaid tickets can result in jail time... Lawyer up

Speaking from experience. DO NOT SKIP the court date. Lawyer up. Expect to pay a fine and/or to receive up to 10 days in jail which is really 7 days with good behaviour. Well, technically it could be 365 less 355 days and $100,000 fine less whatever yours ends up being. That way, if you screw up again while on probation, you could get the full year and the full fine minus the time served and money spent originally. If you skip, they will put out a warrant for your arrest. Should you ever get caught in the states or go down there on your own to finally face the judge you will be guaranteed the jail time with your fine. Better to deal with it now and in the proper way than to guarantee yourself a world of shit later.

There are details I'd rather not share with everyone but feel free to PM me

EmperorIS 05-28-2011 09:09 PM

all this because of not paying a ticket ... hope it was worth it

good luck bro ... sounds like you may need it

I'm not in a financial situation to hire a lawyer, and I can't afford to miss school for 10 days.

Um I dunno about your fine, but my fine is 46.20.342(1c)

yours sounds too hardcore.

Not sure if it is a matter of being too hardcore rather that they will throw anyone in jail for just about anything in the states.

I'm starting to feel that revscene is a large place of misinformation and hearsay.

I'm calling the us consolute monday.

I know this sounds bad, but perhaps you can ask some of your relatives to borrow some money for a lawyer?

I say get it sorted out now than having to go through something worst in the future.

good luck.

Judging from your post count I'd say you contributed to this place quite a bit. :D

The US consulate isn't going to help you. You're not a US citizen, nor would they help you handle a speeding ticket. (if you were a US citizen) They deal with strictly immigration type affairs.

Call the law enforcement agency in the county you got your ticket in and see what options you have. Figure out if you really need to lawyer up or if it's just a matter of paying the fine (and/or any associated penalties) and be done with it. If you don't like what they have to say, then think about hiring a lawyer.

Eastwood 05-28-2011 09:52 PM

If you're looking at Mandatory jail time I say fuck it and don't go back to the States again.

That's complete bullshit that they can put you in jail for an overdue ticket. There loss now that they won't get your tax revenue anymore right...

this is not a speeding ticket, this is a criminal offense with a mandatory court appearance.

Make sure you speak to a US lawyer not a BC one!!
