op did u tell them about the part where the mexican guy from ABCs primetime "what would u do" show come over & give u a big hand shake/small interview
but seriously i when i was a kid my dad tells me not to pick up shit thats not yours on the street as it belong to a dead person (im chinese so go figure) as well as to know your place & respect older ppl (doesn't matter if their little older) but mostly i got beat up a lot for being stupid (yes as of today i still get beat once in a while from my dad just as a reminder yes its quite sad)
todays teen some of them are full of shit, i mean back when i was in HS we at least think about the about situation before we doing any stupid (ex:not start a fight in pubic) but todays teens just out of control (just like when i see a gr8 with a iphone 4) i mean do they really need a iphone 4 at there age (overly spoiled)
as well i remember this one time my bud told me he went to rush to played a few games of Maxi Tune while these LB teens started playing not too long ago, so they race my bud a few times lost, then threatens my bud to never come here again like they own the place like the own the place
(i started going to rush when i was in gr8 im 22 & i dun even got the balls to yell like that at rush)
while later he went just to play a few games but this time with me & he saw those LB again, later after a game they just started punching my bud after that one of the workers came in yelling but they wouldn't leave (somehow they try to pin this on us) but eventually they left then i named a random rcmp officer & his number
I went up to a cute chick and asked her if she'd let me take a photo of her for $30 she slapped me, she said to me that "I AIN'T A WHORE!"
But other than that I have seen every car on display in DTP just by cruising about in Richmond, thank you very much for collecting them together and get someone to sing a cover for "fuck you".
OH FUCK YOU OH OH OOOOH~

Need to put fear into their eyes, only way they'll learn.
I think the real question we should be asking ourselves is "What can we do as adults?". Obviously posting on RS here how parents are to blame and saying how kids these days lack respect is assessing the problem but how can we approach it?
Talks at different schools?
On that note, for those who mentioned problems at school, I think many teachers just don't care anymore too. I haven't come across any elementary or high school teachers in some time now but maybe many of them just want to teach the class and nothing more. When I went back to Ukraine I learned that schools weren't how they were before, that kids didn't learn as much as they did before and that they have become more rude towards others because teachers weren't putting in as much effort into their jobs and as authoritarian figures as they used to.
So what can we say about this problem?
-kids are becoming more disrespectful towards others and their property
-other forms of media are replacing parents that put improper values into their minds
-lack of discipline by teachers; kid does something stupid and gets suspended-> that means kid gets some free time, how is that supposed to help?
Surely as a group there could be something we could do locally, my biggest fear is having my future kids grow up in a similar environment.

I've also noticed the lack of respect in the younger generations. I tutored high school kids last year during grade 12. The younger kids act as if they're big shit, like they've been that way for years.
I walked home a few times and picked up some conversations from elementary school kids-they're swearing...AND THEY LOOK LIKE THEIR IN GRADE 5. I swear some of the kids are spoiled, have Blackberries/Iphones and they don't really have a need for them. I mean, what kid needs BBM or internet on a phone in elementary school?
i blame it on the parents these days that kids are so fucked up
stop trying to be their friend and actually discipline and teach your fucking kids, then maybe they won't be a useless dumbass dick or bitch in society

Kids be growing up way too fast.
One thing I noticed is that kids will talk tough but when they face real problems in their life they run to their parents or the nearest adult. Its that kind of fear and dependence that they need to be remember.

For those that preach beating the shit out of your kids have you dealt with child services or getting reported before? If so please post your stories.
This shit about "child services" really fucking bothers me. Sure there is a way or limit to how much to beat your kids. I'm not talking about hitting your kids with a baseball bat, but really. I was brought up being hit with a metal ruler, having my hair pulled, or having my ear lobes pulled. All of it resulted in pain, yet it taught me right from wrong, good from bad.
Behind closed doors at home is one thing, but in public is another. Sure if your kid is acting out, I would STILL pull my kids hair in public. The generality of people dont', from fear of "child services" coming. But come on, if you don't TEACH YOUR KIDS then they'll grow up like 60% of the fucking asshats out there.
I really think people should have to pass an exam before they can have kids.
+1
nothing at all to do with generations. If you go to a poor neighbourhood in a third world country in any era, this and much worse, would be happening. It's not right and sucks balls, but it's the truth - nothing generational, just upbringing. At least here you coming up to them and having a conversation would have an affect. In other places this would lead to more trouble.
I bet most of you saying you should beat your kids don't have kids.
Did my parents hit me? Yeah a bit, but I was generally well-behaved. My dad had the explosive temper - nice guy most of the time, but you didn't want to see him pissed. My mom was patient and would discipline my sister and I with her talking.
I'm no expert, but there are many other ways to discipline your kids apart from hitting them physically. My son is only 3 years old, and he's very strong willed; I am not looking forward to his teenage years. Sometimes I just want to whack him but that's not the way I want to raise my children.

A distant cousin (he was a teenager at the time) once called the cops on his dad. His dad spent the night in jail. Messed up experience for the whole family.

Reminds me of the time when i saw a few kids kicking around a baby bird and almost killed it. pissed me off soo much. told em to fuck off and if they kick it again i'll kick them in the face.
i felt so bad for the little bird . i ended up staying with it for about 15 mins while it got up and kind of jump near the tree where he fell off. I walked away and the mother flew down and watched over her.

i agree.
i remember back in the day if i even dropped a grain of rice, my dad would tell me to mop the floor and smack me over the head.
OR EVEN WORSE
I dont know what it was, but the older filipino generation of parents had this look. Its kind of hard to explain. When i would be at house parties playing with my friends, its a regular that things would get out hand and we'd get loud and troublesome. BUT HOLY FUCK if my dad saw me doing that while he was talking to his freinds, he would just look at me and HOLY SHIT he didnt have to say nothing, do nothing. Didnt even have to lift a hand, and would fucken drop everything and tell my friends that sorry i have to sit down.
Muthafucka scared the shit of me....but i love my dad.
first, good job, cptn picard...
second, ya man, my parents has that look too, they dun have to do much, just gimme that stare and i would just STFU and pick up a text book and start reading...

Thank god these were only like grade 7-8s, if they were any older, I would just left the place.
But yeah... I never thought today's kids were such "problems".
I work with many teenagers (mr. kT over there would know ) and to be honest most of them are nice kids, sometimes a PITA, but that's just kids. I never thought that there would be problems like this, nevermind so close to hime.
BTW 2 of the three boys were white, the other one was either very tanned or brown. whereas the girls was Chinese.
I wonder if the victim was a White girl with her dad... how things would have rolled?
To be honest though, I could count how many beatings i've gotten from my parents when I was young. Maybe I was just the sit in the corner and be silent with my gameboy type of kid, but I only rarely got whacked with a feather duster. That being said though, constant scoldings were almost a daily occurance.
OP: Good job man...it's nice to see people still step and help others out.
I find that a lot of kids not only have very little respect for elders and pretty much anyone else around them, but they also expect things handed to them and aren't willing to earn their keep. My family wasn't well-off during my teenage years and even though sometimes I would be an ass, I would still remember that I had to do my part to help in the house, whether it would be working at the family business or just helping mom out with getting food ready. I wouldn't complain to my mom or dad about how I can't have nicer clothes or the latest toy, not would I ever talk back at them. These days, I see 13 year old kids whine to their mothers about not having $200+ jeans and other material goods. Worst part, the parents usually cave to them.

All in all I think there is never a strict guide line as to how parents SHOULD raise their kids. Everyone will eventually become a parent one day but not it doesn't mean they all automatically have proper morals, patience or behaviour to properly raise a child.
Kids are getting smarter now a days and they can see through any BS. They do what they see and double standards just ain't gonna cut it. That kid's parents are probably either douche bags themselves or are too selfish to spend anytime with their kid.
Props for showing them some proper manner. Enough to make them feel bad and remember that they can't always get away with everything.
Good for the OP for teaching them a lesson...rather have them learn it now then when it comes to something more serious when they are adults..
But I also want to put in the perspectives that may be some of our attitude towards the new generation are just a symptom of age?
You know, music these days suck, kids are such brats these days, the girls are getting sluttier at a younger age. While there is some truth to it, it may just be that a comparsion between kids nowadays and the time when we were kids aren't always that accurate.

like the title says, kids are just kids. They dont know any better. I'm pretty sure when I was in gr6-7 i swore a lot too. When they get a little older they'll eventually know to watch their language.
and we can't judge them as we did not live through such a rapid technology advancement as they did. I'm sure our parents said the same thing when we were surfing Asian Avenue in elementary school and chatting on ICQ is the coolest thing on earth...."do they REALLY need that?"
