| DD-WRT router needs more ram?
Original router has 16mb, the seller is offering a ram upgrading service, which is soldering a new ram chip on the board. It runs DD-WRT v24sp2
32mb / 64mb / 128mb. I don't play online game or use too much VPN, how does adding some ram make a difference?

What the fuck?
As far as I know, more RAM = more ports? I don't see how any regular consumer would have to care about this...

it's quite common to pay extra $5 in Asia to add 64mb, another $5 to 128mb.

So? It's also common to make pork buns out of cardboard in Asia. What's your point?
As far as I know, there are no real consumer level options to add RAM to a router. I don't think I've ever seen that option anywhere.
So you pay some dude from China $5 to add some RAM to your router...why?

So basically what you found is that it makes no difference for normal people, only nerds that want to squeeze an extra 1% performance...which is basically what you got when you are buying a router flashed with custom open source firmware. I have a DD-WRT running Linksys lying somewhere too.
Awesome. I've been trying to tell you that through common sense. If this was something that regular people needed to know, I'm sure most of us would've heard of it when looking at reviews for wireless routers. Instead, RAM in a router is damn near never mentioned.
What you have here is Asian people marketing shit they know is an obvious oversell to normal people at a low price so that they can't turn it down or else they will have feel like they missed out on a huge performance bonus...one they wouldn't notice before and won't notice now. $5 for more RAM? Better get it or you'll "seet dai".

The best reviewed all-purpose router right now is the Netgear WNDR3700. http://www.netgear.com/home/products.../WNDR3700.aspx |

Its a waste of time and money to upgrade your routers RAM. Especially for home use. I've pushed over 400gb data on my DIR655 in a month with 0 issues. I think you'd be more concerned about the routers processor more than ram.

If you're running a bunch of services on the router and you're experiencing crashes, turn some of them off. Other than that, you're better off upgrading to a better router if you want more ram.

I have the RT-N56U, wish the N66U would come out sooner otherwise I would buy that.
Nothing can beat its routing performance now especially if you have gigabit internet.
