sony is a huge company and with millions of psn users with their cc info.
and it would make sony lose a lot of face.

Not quite...

  1. PS3 ships with ability to run linux console something rather. It's a selling feature.
  2. Sony is similar to apple, very restrictive with how they want you to run their hardware. Eventually they remove the linux console thingy with updates. If you don't update, you can't play newer games, watch stuff etc...
  3. Hackers don't like their toys being taken away from them, especially something they paid for. Sony is idiotic enough to think they can get away with removing features. Hackers decide to find the PS3 master unlock code, then publish it on the internet.
  4. Sony tries to sue said hacker. Not just normally, but using weird ass legal loopholes.
  5. Sony is now getting a taste of what it did. Having what they worked to earn being forcibly removed from them.

If you followed the whole episode of this, you'll understand how Sony was mean, overstepped it's bounds and was downright evil.

Why would Sony have peoples e-mail passwords in the first place?

twitchyzero 06-03-2011 08:55 AM

they don't...but many people share passwords between all their log-ins.

hotjoint 06-03-2011 09:05 AM

Theability to run linux was not a selling feature.
It wasn't until you opened up your console manual where it listed "install other os".

Sony realized this feature had a security exploit and removed it.
They basically patched the exploit by making it non functional.

Now by Sony trying to erase the console root key from the internet and gettin sue happy with the hacking community well thats there they brought this on themselves.

Sony truly believe that the PS3 was un-hackable, therfore completely overlooked psn security and even firewalls protecting our info or even more inportantly their "root key"

hahaha. In short, Yes.

The ability to hack it to play pirated games was always around, but what has Sony's panties in a knot is now that now with the master key, there are work-arounds to playing hacked games online and that with it, they can't ban your console as you can just unban yourself.

I have no idea where to find this stuff, or whether it's even floating somewhere out there online. I've never looked, I don't own a ps3. It's just that I heard that it can be done now.

FYI, I'm not encouraging you to pirate their games .
Just explaining why sony is so pissed off.
:speechless:
