There is no special reason to get Royal Purple. Don't believe their marketing hype. Cheaper and other oils protect the same.

I remember reading a study some where on the internet. That Royal Purple actually produces a few more horsepower. I buy oil in the states. Half price from canadaPosted via RS Mobile | | | | | 06-02-2011, 11:05 PM | #11 | | VAC Head Rotang Mod

i tried RP, Mobil1, and Castrol GTX (dino)
RP burnt out really fast, and is really expensive, not avail. in 5L jug
mobil1 did better than RP, roughly same price, but had 5L jug so was a bit cheaper than RP
GTX is super cheap, and from what i could tell stood up to the beatings i gave it better.

i was doing my oil changes every 3.5-4k, new filter every time.

the synths cost me 60-70$ a change, gtx costs me 30-35.

even if you use shit re-manufactured oil, as long as you do the oil changes more frequently you shouldn't run into any issues.

Lordco has Royal Purple. Might need to have them bring it in from their warehouse. Cheapest if you buy the 20 litre pail. If you have an account, it can be really cheap. Don't know what kind of discount level Revscene member get, but I get mine through a friend who works there. Damn good price. And no, don't PM we with questions. I value what I can get the RP for. Way cheaper than US prices for sure.

RP burned about half a quart in 5000kms for me. Now I switched to using ENEOS 5w40. Almost 6000 kms now and it hasn't burnt anything. Price is around the same as well.

I've used Mobil1, German Castrol and RP, right now I'm using RP and I really don't see a noticeable difference but it doesn't burn for me, I buy RP from the states, Walmart has them for about 8.50/qt but I've bought them as low as 6.50/qt on sale, German Castrol is easily found in CT the last time I had to get them but can't be bought in jugs and only in 1 litre bottles ... I wouldn't buy RP here in Canada but at the same time I wouldn't go all the way to the states just to buy oil (but if you already are headed there, not a bad idea to stock up on some)
I read and heard from people over the years that you shouldn't be buying oil in gigantic tubs if you aren't going to use them all up soon, once you air the oil out, something happens where it makes it degrade or something, not sure the science in it but if someone knows more about it and can clarify this it would be nice ...

After a little while it gets moistened by the synthetic and re-expands and oil consumption stops. Whenever you switch over to synthetic, there will always be oil consumption for the first ~2 oil changes (from my experience). After that, no matter what synthetic you use there will be none.
