Even though the Caps tied it up and won in OT, the media's blowing OV's "benching" out of proportion, as usual...

that's just the way the media works.

Wow, $7mil per year cap hit. Great goalie but high cap hit, and they still have to resign Weber and Suter.

hypediss 11-03-2011 09:04 AM

^ i think it would be definitely be one of weber or suter now...

before neone hope to have weber in a canucks uniform keep in mind that we have a beast of our own to resign (edler)

highfive 11-03-2011 09:54 AM

^ Ballard + Salo money.

hypediss 11-03-2011 10:00 AM

ballard is still signed and the way he has been playing this season i dont expect him to be shipped off

Ronin 11-03-2011 10:05 AM

The good news for Nashville is that even after their signing of Rinne, they still have $33m in cap space next year.

The bad news is that they have only 11 players signed right now so they'll need to fill more than half the roster with that $33m. That and Nashville is one of those "cap floor" teams so they probably won't spend more than $50-55m in salary so they might have as little as $20m in cap space to work with.

Suter will want $6m and Weber probably $8m. Even with $33m, they're left with $19m to sign 11 more players. At $20m, they've got $6m left to sign 11 players.

Nashville needs to loosen up those purse strings if they really want to make a Cup run. They can't keep even this team together if they continue to spend $15m less than other NHL teams.

Excellent rundown Ed, that and the fact that Shea has mentioned himself that he wants to play for a contender. The fact that they just re-signed Pekka to that monster contract means they just shot themselves in the foot trying to retain their core of Suter and Weber. I think once one or both of them realize how dismal the situation is in Nashville when they can only dress a forward corp line-up full of plugs that are paid $1m (or less) contract players they will want to find greener pastures ... I'm really hoping Shea gives us a hometown discount! :considered:

Tim Budong 11-03-2011 01:24 PM

i'll be the first to say, i dont expect shea weber to be a canuck, then again, who are we kidding HAHA
