Id take Kessel from Toronto. Not very realistic maybe, but he wants out of there. He'd probably take a hit on his salary to be with a team that doesnt suck.

Im not even going to comment on Luongo's word
Because they are just WORDS until action is done.

When dealing a player of his calibre, there sometimes never really a "right" deal. especially with the team we have now.

The Canucks are also NOT in rebuilding mode

But with Eddie Lack on the back burner we had least have something. All I know it that I'm excited for the summer because we will finally find out whats going to happen. Remember We lost 3 straight and didn't really have a chance, with tossing Corey in the fire it upped his trade value and shows he can play under the playoff pressure which he didn't really have before.

We can still say Lu played strong and for either goalie we have perfect trade bait which we will get a shit load for. I think it was a great move which will make this summer so exciting.

The Lu haters on this board and on every other internet forum have remained silent because they've been at the bar celebrating since Dan Murphy's Tweet.

I will agree that Luongo has shown tremendous growth as a professional over this season. It'll bode well for the rest of his career wherever he plays.

The problem with moving Luongo is will Schneider be able to play through the grind of the west? Or what happens if Schneider gets injured?

By Keeping Luongo and Schneider, we would have a 1A and 1B goalies who can provide the team with grade A goaltending. Remember the first few years when we got Luongo and everyone would be nervous when Sanford or Raycroft was playing?

And I don't think Eddie Lack can take up that challenge.

I personally is more interested in seeing what changes would be done to defence.

1A and 1B isn't the issue, it's that no two No. 1 goalies don't want to share a job. Schneider doesn't want to be stuck in a backup position, and he doesn't deserve to be in a backup position. Lu is a competitor and it cant be easy to be on the bench after all he's done. 1A and 1B isn't fair to these two world-class goalies.

After taking a few days to think back on the season and playoffs, I've come to some personal conclusions and opinions

I'll chime in about the goalie situation again. IMO it's not THAT far of a stretch for us to retain Schneider AND Lu for next season. It's a lot to spend on 2 goalies, but if you really believe in the current core, it can be done. With the cap expected to go up for next season and new CBA, there should be room assuming we don't go after any big contracts in the offseason. The majority of our players are signed for next season already, so the deciding factor is whether or not one thinks the current group of players is good enough to get the job done. Personally, I think they are but that doesn't mean improvements can't be made. When Edler and Burrows need new deals after the end of next year, then its a different game. But like I said before the playoffs started, once the playoffs begin all bets are off and a team can find a bunch of good bounces, ride a hot goalie, etc etc, especially with the parity in the league today. There is only so much that having the right group of players can do for a team, you need to look no further than the Pens for the best example. Which leads to my next point...

When the Canucks started slowing down and slumping in January, I'll be the first to admit that I truly thought they were taking a bit off their game to save some juice for the playoffs. I figured that after the all-star game they'd begin to ramp up the intensity and gear up. That never came. Then I figured that with 10-15 games left in the season, that would be the time to do it. That never came. Maybe it was the Lu and Cory stealing games, OT/SO wins, that gave them a false sense of confidence. The team and AV seemed to have full confidence in themselves, knowing they had more to give but just couldn't collectively find that next gear. The reply from AV every time was that he had faith in the group, they knew the process, they would figure it out themselves, etc etc, a much too laissez-faire attitude IMO. MG's attitude wasn't far off, and you can see this through the Coho trade. I have no problems with the trade itself, ASSUMING that your top 2 lines are playing to potential, and its apparent MG also thought the big guns would snap out of it on their own thus making Coho expendable and bringing in Kassian to be a physical body for the short term, and hoping for some offensive return in the future. So this goes back to why the top 2 lines weren't able to perform to potential consistently. Maybe they were on a leash that was too long? So who's responsible? Majority of that lies with AV IMO. He wasn't able to motivate our key players to the level they need to be at. He has shown that he would rather stick to his game plan than make adjustments and take advantage of the opponents' deficiencies. I don't doubt he's a good coach, but sometimes things can run stale. Some of the responsibility lies with MG as well. Maybe he gave AV too much autonomy, maybe he took AV's assessment of the team more than MG's own assessment, who knows.

I think our players are good enough, but its the process that needs some work now. We don't need to blow up the team, or make any huge personnel changes IMO. Our UFA's this summer are Salo, Pahlsson, Bitz, Volpatti, Ebbett, and Rome. Raymond may be able to be had for cheap next year, so I am willing to entertain that idea if its under 2M. I love Manny and what he can bring to the team, but unfortunately his hit at 2.5M is a bit heavy and I would prefer to see that being spent elsewhere. I don't foresee any big moves this year IF MG can get Lu and Cory on the same page of a true 1a/1b setup, hotter goalie plays no questions asked. Props to Lu for not pulling a Heatley/Nash with his NTC (at least not yet). Cory sounds like he just wants the chance to become a starting goalie, and I think Lu understands his role next year if Cory sticks around. I don't think either of them mind experimenting with a true 50/50 split for 1 year if they believe in the rest of the team.

You are making some fairly bold assumptions there. Does Schneider want to be the #1 goalie in Columbus who can't even win the draft lottery? Does Lu want to be a starter so bad that he's willing to play for the Leafs?

I think both of these guys, and Lu in particular, are willing to sit on the bench if it means a legit chance at winning the Cup. As long as both of these guys understand that there is no assigned #1 and backup, and no obligatory requirement to play one or the other in the game based on anything other than team performance, I don't see how that is not a fair situation.

I'm going to make my bold assumption and say that ANY two No.1 goalies in the league would be more than happy to share a job if it meant they have a very good chance of winning the cup.

MG stated today at the press conference that Lack is "close to being NHL ready".

No. It is well known that both goalies want a starting position... if either of them didnt then luongo would have happily played back up... but oh wait he said he will get rid of his NTC if MG asks him to do so. i think both goalies know that only one is staying and to say otherwise is a Bold statment.

If i am wrong i will apologize for my assumptions..

I havent seen this being talked about but Lets say Luongo does leave or stay. How much is Schneider going to sign for? Im assuming hes gonna command atleast 3million+

IMO, if we dont get back an impact player for Luongo cause Luongo himself is a impact player, i say dont trade him until the right deal comes around.

Teams have to learn how to play through injuries, canucks are of those teams that can't

they need another top 3/6 forward to play with the sedins

since 2005-2006 when Anson Carter played with the sedins, only 2 players scored more goals than him in a season. Kesler in 2010-11 and Burrows in 2009-2010. Anson Carter is a player no where near Burrows and Keslers' caliber but yet he put up a goal total that only 2 people have broken when playing with the sedins in like 6-7 years?

It's true that the goal tending isn't the problem. However canucks need to trade one of the goalies for a good goal scorer, one that will tally 30+ each year no problem. Playing with the sedins, that goal scorer could tally an easy 40 goals if Anson Carter could tally 33 lol. I think trading Luongo for a solid scorer would be the best choice.

Look what happened.. 1st round = Keslers playing like shit, D Sedin is injured. that's most of the teams goals right there, out in 5 games
last year game 7 = 0 goals for
