pure.life | 06-19-2011 04:18 PM | Not sure if this is the write place to share but I didn't want to start another riot topic. There are too many of them already. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2579/...84b3a3a8_m.jpg
Did you guys see this good Samaritan? A local photographer Maurice captured this photo.
His name is Jacky and one of the many who helped clean up the city after the riot. There is an interview with him posted on a local blog sharing his experiences with the cleanup group and his urge to help. Quote:
TLC: Why do you think Vancouver was a target of such riot? Jacky: I don’t think it only happens in Vancouver. It could be any city and there could be a riot. But I think it was magnified here because the Canucks never won a cup.
TLC: How do you think Vancouver Police Department responded to this riot? Were you satisfied with Vancouver’s approach to this incident? Jacky: I am okay with it. I don’t think we could have done it any better. Mob mentality is crazy and even police are enforcers so we have to watch for their safety as well. They couldn’t go blindly charging or start using rubber bullets on these people and stuff. As to post-riot, I think Vancouver couldn’t have set a better example than that.
TLC: When did you feel the urge to participate in the cleanup group and why did you do it? Jacky: As soon as I saw the group! I just do it because I want to help out. Taking half a day off from work won’t hurt. This is my city. With all the negativity and people slamming at each other, why not do something useful like this.
TLC: How do you think Vancouverites responded to this incident? As part of the cleaning group, what was it like to share this experience? Jacky: We responded perfectly! We shared a positive attitude and took matters into our own hands. I just hope by sharing this experiences, people can see themselves as more powerful than they think they are.
TLC: What are some encouraging words do you have for our fellow Vancouverites?
Jacky: We’re more powerful than we think! If you have an idea, let people know. Better yet, turn words into actions!
| He even wrote an encouraging piece to spread the goodwill of Vancouverites here: http://thelifecommentary.com/2011/06...the-good-side/
It's really encouraging to see people like him and many other goodwill Vancouverites working in unity to help bring the city back to being the best tourist destination in the world. I think the whole thing has been exaggerated by Vancouver not winning the cup and pin pointing the idiots being the local Vancouverites and Canucks fan.
I think it'll take some time to bring our reputation back to what it was but in lieu of this, this incident has united many of us together.
Let this continue and keep up the goodwill! |
