Everybody boos the refs. The mods profile should just come with autofail on each post. Someone will always be pissed, I agree, a waste of time.

Stealthy 06-17-2011 09:38 AM

How about when using the fail button add a page similar to the report form to fill out a reason why you used the fail. Minimum character post has to come in play too.
This is a double edged sword however, not sure if you guys can prevent stuff like "aaaaaaaa"

Useless poll.

Poll should have been:

"Should mods be allowed to make stupid posts and not get failed?"

I voted for keeping it though, because I'm not a pussy.

b0unce. [?] 06-17-2011 10:35 AM

keep

El Bastardo 06-17-2011 11:55 AM

A couple of dozen of you voted to get rid of it, but you haven't made yourself as vocal as you should be in this thread.

Lets hear arguments for getting rid of it.

gdoh 06-17-2011 11:57 AM

are mods able to see who voted for and against it??

Cman333 06-17-2011 12:33 PM

Why do people care so much about getting failed?

Is it gonna ruin your RS "street cred"?

I say keep it. You get failed if you make stupid posts. Big deal. Don't make stupid posts and you usually don't get failed.

This. Alot of people lurk so id say 300-500 is fair. But keep it! The fail button changed my attitude towards rs for sure

How about limiting the fails per each post to 5? The poster would still get the message of the fails but at least the carnage would be limited. The second benefit is it will discourage idiots like ZhangFei and some other trolls on RS from purposely making dumb posts just to get as many fails as possible.

I don't post often anymore, maybe a couple a week but it's nowhere where it used to be. I don't feel like spending the time writing up a post, trying to have a discussion and someone hits the fail button without a reason why. I haven't purposely hit the fail button either. There was one time someone linked to the fail button in a post and a few times I hit it by clicking around but never on purpose.

A better solution could be more attention to and better policing of reported failed posts? More work for the mods but it seems fairer.

This.
It's a little bit unfair how Mods can fail other people but can't be failed themselves. I say keep the fail button though.

!LittleDragon 06-17-2011 02:25 PM

I'd also like to add that I often see posts being failed when they aren't even fail posts.... it's someone that doesn't agree with what's being said in the post. It's like trying to talk to someone over the phone, they don't agree with you so instead of discussing why, they start mashing the keypad.

Or the members that stalk other members and fail them for no apparent reason.

Greenstoner 06-17-2011 02:53 PM

fail and troll button

to identify the real troll, suspend or banned after recieving 200 trolls

200 seems a lot, but real troll can be failed 50+ times at 1 post. this way we can easily weed off some troll from the forum

How about a members given Fails to Thanks ratio has to be close. Theres people on here who have given 1850 fails and only 500 thanks. that says somethin about the person. :troll:

..actually that might not work. people will start thanking shit that doesnt need to be thanked just to get more fails to give.

for example in twanger thread someone said ``i`m not into girls with tats``, he got like 20 fails

what if he said ``i`m not into brown girls``, would that get 20 fails too

That guy didn't get failed for his opinion, he got failed for unnecessarily sharing it in a hot girls thread. If you don't like tattoos, that's fine. Just keep it to yourself, nobody gives a shit.

SkinnyPupp 06-17-2011 04:24 PM

Since the fail button isn't a moderation technique, there is no reason to add notes to each fail. If you want to, you can fail someone then discuss why you did. That's what most people do. It's usually pretty obvious why someone gets a fail. Most of the time, it's not a simple 'disagreement' either, although I have seen that - two people going back and forth arguing about something, and failing each others retorts each time.

I like the idea of increasing the amount needed to fail someone.
