Free Steam Games!

Quote:

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today introduced support for Free to Play (F2P) Games on Steam with the launch of five F2P games.

Available immediately, the launch titles are Spiral Knights, Forsaken Worlds, Champions Online: Free for All, Global Agenda: Free Agent, and Alliance of Valliant Arms (AVA).

Noticed no one has posted this yet. Basically, 5 free games put on Steam.
I've only tried four of the five (Forsaken Worlds just doesn't look interesting), and they're pretty good. Especially Spiral Knights!

Anyone else tried these games out yet?

twitchyzero 06-18-2011 08:05 PM

..so how does it work in terms of the devs getting their work appreciated? by donations?

OffSea 06-18-2011 08:20 PM

Higher traffic for their game is probably their benefit? I've noticed most of these games aren't exactly f2p either; "buy our cash coin for extra stuff!" kind of deal in most of these games. Nonetheless, they're still very entertaining.

trying spiral knights right now seems like a fun game to play for awhile. but i see myself getting bored of it soon. Global agenda seems fun but with the limitation i dont think ill even bother.

Trying Champions Online, it's not bad for a free game, like most MMO's though, will lag a ton during peak hours

lowda9 06-19-2011 01:07 PM

does everyone that play cod black ops online on the pc have to play it through steam? n00b question, im just in the proccess of dling in steam right now and I see you can play black ops.

twitchyzero 06-19-2011 02:18 PM

i know MW2 uses steamworks so if Black ops also uses steam works then yes, you must play the game through steam.

AVA isn't too bad.

Another one of those games where you spend money to buy better weapons.

just tried global agents. its pretty fun. basically a mass effect mmo

Ikkaku 06-21-2011 10:25 PM

for those wanting to try forsaken world, it's just a slightly different version of Battle of Immortal (if you've played it previously)

OffSea 06-23-2011 06:34 PM

This just in:

Team Fortress 2 is now a F2P game.

forever.

I bought TF2 off steam for friend for $2 about 6 months ago. So I would only imagine it'll go F2P by now.

Hell the game was worth it at retail.

I've been spending some time testing some of these free games out.

Spiral Knights is a simple hack and slash with small file size. Fun for a quick game. I got bored of it just as quick.

Alliance of Valiant Arms is the shooter game with 3 gun classes and a couple modes of play. I didn't enjoy this game at all, I was hoping infection would be something like L4D but it was more like a game of tag. Lame

Global Agenda is a MMO that I'm really enjoying at the moment. You can fully customize your characters face. It's sort of like mass effect turned into a MMO. I really like how you can snipe or jump around on your jet pack, sneak up and melee kill your targets. The controls on this game just feel right.

Currently downloading Forsaken world. Will try it out.

---Also, why hasn't Steam added Alien Swarm to the list of free games yet?

TOPEC 07-05-2011 12:20 AM

im pretty sure i saw alien swarm in the list of free games just today

Ikkaku 07-05-2011 01:37 AM

lol forsaken world will feel like a slightly grown up version of ragnarok online. Do those daily 30 quests from Henry or whatever and you'll get to level 20 in like the first day or two lol

edit: hasn't alien swarm always been free? Or has it updated quite a bit and become a paid game?

Alby 07-05-2011 02:52 PM

i got alien swarm as a F2P game.

SaviorSelf_666 07-05-2011 08:09 PM
