Yep they'll work together. I dont recommend using MSI motherboards though, go with Asus.

hey thanks for the response, umm what motherboard would you recommend from ncix in the same price range from asus or gigabyte?

also im now deciding between these two cpus

athlon II X4 640

phenom II X4 840

It would be helpful if you told us whether you intend to OC or game. It will make a difference. If you can afford an extra $16 over the 640, I think you would be better off with the 955. The 955 is Black as well. If you are really on a budget you should consider getting onboard video.
