Now, let’s get into the “meat” of the discussion here now. 2 thick slices of bacon adorned atop melted cheddar cheese and bbq sauce, all of which is above a burger patty roughly the size of a hockey puck. Underneath all that was mayo and the aforementioned 1/3 bottom bun. However, it’s the patty that really steals the show here and redeems the entire burger. It’s juicy. Give it a squeeze, look at the juice just slowly ooze out of the patty. It’s tasty.
A local landmark re-opened today, and I'm excited and extremely happy.

Apparently their renovation or what not was made into a documentary and the rights have been sold to Oprah!?

The revamped four-floor, 22,000 square-foot food hub is the subject of a national documentary series, currently in production with the Oprah Winfrey Network.

The series will chronicle the "trials and tribulations" of re-opening the shop, as well as the challenges of meeting both a business and social mandate, said city restauranteur Mark Brand, who took on the project after the original Save-on-Meats closed in 2009.
"What we're trying to do is provide the community with healthy, affordable food. A place that they remember, but also bringing it up a notch (in terms of) nutrition and stable employment for a ton of residents," said Brand. Of the 70 employees Brand recently hired, over 40 are Downtown Eastside residents.

"Our plan from the outset was to make sure that this was serving the community in the Downtown Eastside," he said.

Brand said he was careful to ensure that everyone involved was comfortable with the documentary filming. "It's a super sensitive area, and residents are at risk. I wanted to make sure that A, none of that was being exploited, or B, was the focus," he said. "I think I was a little over-cautious, because everybody so far is just really excited to be part of it."

i thought the burger was just ok. Wasn't a fan of the bun. The meat was good.

Not sure if they'll do that, but worth asking?

BlackZRoadster 06-26-2011 01:52 AM

I don't think you understand either? Back in the days, you could buy a steak from the butcher, and the restaurant would cook it for you for $5 or smth and add fries.

If you did, my bad, but the way I think you read it was that he could order steak...from the menu...and eat it.

BlackZRoadster 06-26-2011 08:11 PM

^ lol you still dont get it.

I dunno how to explain it to you but as long as the other folks get it

I didn't think too highly of the burger either... might go back and try some other offerings though.

Please explain? :D

Culverin 06-27-2011 11:25 PM

If he's referring to "have my cake and eat it too". Then I don't get it either, because having your cake means you stand to benefit, and eating it too means you get to indulge while benefiting. So please do explain. :p

BlackZRoadster 06-27-2011 11:35 PM

It's can't have your cake and eat it too.

But hamsup said it in a way relating to that saying , he wasn't asking it as a question about buying a steak and eating it there.
Hope that clears it up :troll:

K-Dub 06-28-2011 12:27 AM

Sorry, but I still think it's about buying a steak from the butcher and having the restaurant cook it for you.

Cause that's how they used to do it there.

Meowjin 06-28-2011 12:32 AM

im so fucking confused.

bcrdukes 06-28-2011 12:51 AM

Why can't everybody agree to disagree? :fullofwin:

I am pretty sure he was talking about buying a steak there and having them cook it on the spot.

Yea, he's making a play on words on that idiom to reflect the fact that you can buy your meat there and have them cook it for you on the spot.

unit 06-28-2011 08:35 AM
