new pc build wont boot/post

hey guys so today i decided to put together my computer, here are the parts i have installed so far to test if it works :

ASUS M4A78LT-M motherboard
AMD Athlon II X4 645 cpu
OCZ MODXSTREAM PRO 500w PSU
and 1 stick of mushkin ddr3-1333 2gb ram
and its placed in this case HERE

the problem i have right now is when i boot it, there is no signal to monitor, and i hear no beeps. all the fans are running, front fan,cpu fan, power supply, mobo led is on, but monitor just black and no signal/no bios or post. i have tried resetting the cmos and even taking out the ram so right now its just cpu/mobo/psu. What could be the problem? or any other suggestions of what i should check/try? thanks guys!

sorry if its not so much help but..besides the usual checking everything, using different cables stuff

you're using the onboard gpu right? maybe you could try sticking in an independent video card and seeing if you get a signal then

i wouldn't assume that not hearing a beep is a bad thing because its common when people build their comps that it happens (not saying you built it incorrectly though)

(gonna fire off a bunch of q's/suggestion)

What do you mean by taking out the RAM? You should also check the QVL for the mobo and see if RAM has errors with the memory tester on a ubuntu live CD.

Try a different monitor cable? Or use different in/output?

Did you install mobo standoffs?

Did you make sure you plugged this into the motherboard (top left, blue socket)? I had same symptoms as you before when I forgot to plug this in during one of my past builds.

Also, my motherboard doesnt have a speaker and I didnt connect the one provided with my case, so I dont get beeps when it powers on.

i don't think you will get past POST without RAM

And doesn't POST check for a boot drive as well?

if you have a spare cheapo video card, stick that one and try..

otherwise, take it all apart and just plug in ram and all the power plugs... and see if you can get a beep... if it doesnt work, try a different ram slot.. could have a faulty ram slow

no ram in it right now, thot it shud at least still load bios n display no memory error

QVL on mobo manual doesnt list my ram but figured it shud work, will try new ram once i get a stick

tried 2 monitors one vga and one dvi

yes brass standoffs installed

and all power connectors installed, the 24pin and the +12v 4 pin cpu fan etc

i guess best bet wud be to try new ram at the moment

tried onboard video card, and a pci-e x16 card

tried 3 different slots of a single ram each and then no ram

so does anyone know if i should at least get bios to load with no DRAM installed and it shud display an error message.

the QVL doesnt list my mushkin ram so im starting to believe thats the problem

it won't work(post) without memory chips installed, and yes, Mushkin is not on the list for compatibility. try that first(qualified RAM).

You try re-seating the GPU. I had that issue when I put my GPU in. It looked in, but didn't snap in like normal.

If its onboard video then I have no clue.

right now its using onboard, i tried reseating the gpu twice. i have a pny geforce gts450 and it didnt work, so now im testing with the bare minimum with no expansion cards at all. hopefully it will work if not i guess its warranty/return time for the mobo

Try replugging in the longest connector to the motherboard. If you have a multimeter, there should be one or two test points on the board. Since you built it yourself you might have zapped the boards (static)...you don't need to hear or feel the zap.

so i just tried with the new ram and still same problem, i should also mention i attached a ps2 keyboard and usb mouse and there is no power going to them using the usb/ps2 ports on the back of the mobo. mouse doesnt light up, neither does keyboard. im starting to suspect a dead mobo/cpu but what are some clues to this?

Were you wearing a anti-static wristband when putting it together?

i have two monitors that i have used to test. one was dvi and one was vga. they both didnt work. im fairly confident i have it squared down to the motherboard. with keyboard and mouse connected, tried ps/2 and usb they dont power up. no num key or caps lock or mouse laser. cpu cud be the culprit as well but i still am thinking there shud still be a screen displayed. Will bring to shop tomorrow thanks everyone for the replies!
