Stupidest thing was offering $200 for the phone back.

Smartest thing would be track it, call the guy, tell him you'll offer the price he paid for it, go to his house, call the cops and tell them this guy came out of his house and snatched your phone from your car, wait for officer to arrive and deal with the matter with your serial number and all your paperwork.

similar thing with my buddy...

his hockey team had their locker room broken into during a game, all their phones and walletts were taken.

his brand new BB torch was stolen...few weeks later we decided to re-add his PIN, some lady accepts it, and claims that she bought the phone from the store....buddy goes to the cops showing them the box with the PIN on it and receipt...yet nothing..

so if you get the cops to help you out here ill get my bud to take the same steps you took!!

Follow-up with the police IMMEDIATELY to ensure they are doing everything they can to recover your phone. It doesn't matter how much the phone is worth, stolen property is stolen property and you deserve to get it back because it is your phone.

Well, judging by her comments and how she didn't mention any police intervention, seems like the police are too lazy/busy to give a damn. It's all about vigilante justice now.

So apparently the address I gave the police was a facility for the severely handicapped...no iphone there....=\

Did you manage to get the phone back? Got my phone stolen last night while at the Lamplighter. Guy pretty much walked up and took it without us noticing. No mobile me on the phone.... Anything else I can do to track it down? :(

How does somebody just go up and "take" your phone? You wouldn't leave a large stack of $20s on the table in plain sight. Would you do the same to a $700 item of the same size?

BlackZRoadster 07-18-2011 11:02 PM

^ many ppl leave there phones on the table along with wallet and keys. Depends how nice the area is though. If it's a bar type I'd keep it in my pocket

They should get pants with bigger pockets or start wearing a blazer. :p

AlphaKappa 07-19-2011 12:15 AM

Well there's that app which allows to track down your phone.. You just to know ur apple login, and have the app installed. Everyone should install, it's free tooo

ugh in your scenario I don't think much can be done unfortunately.. Cops don't want to participate and you don't know his location.. :S shucks maybe karma will get the best of him

^ what if they wipe out all the info and do a restore? will that track program still be there?

Energy 07-19-2011 01:04 PM

On a side note, my friend recently lost her iphone 4 at a Starbucks in a "good neighbourhood". Left in on a table for a minute or two and when she came back BAM no more iphone. So never leave belongings unattended!!

I remember learning about a case over a stolen TV (wish I still had my law stuff to pin out exactly which case and #)
It is illegal to 1. Possess stolen good whether you purchased it from someone else or not and 2. If the accused with the stolen good KNOWS that it's stolen and doesn't tip the cops for investigation, that's also illegal. If the buyer honestly didn't know it was stolen and bought it, then the buyer is innocent.
However in your case you texted the person saying it was stolen and u want it back offering $200 reward right? Then this person is guilty of possessing stolen goods/fraud since he knows that it is a stolen merchandise. So I don't understand why cops said they can't do anything.
If you lost the location of this guy... Ah shitty. Next time nag the cops about the law. They seem to cooperate more when u pretend u know all about the law even if it's buuuullllshit.

I don't get why people would ever leave their phone/wallet on a table in a restaurant..it's a different story if I'm at a friends house with people I trust, I have no problem putting my phone on their table.

But if it's somewhere, where there are strangers, just leave that shit in your pockets people.

LiquidTurbo 07-19-2011 09:41 PM

So was the phone actually stolen or did you lose it?

Huge difference.

BlackZRoadster 07-19-2011 09:45 PM

^ amen

Losing a phone is fair game. Stealing is not.

If you guys found a $100 bill on the floor , are you going to ask who dropped it if nobody is looking?

call into rogers and have the UUID blocked as stolen. the phone will become useless. If he still has your contact info he might decide to take the $200.

if he does not return it, it will be useless metal, you still win.

if he does, take the phone back and tell him to **** off.

most likely he will not return it, and simply dispose it.

sorry to hear about your loss.

next time get the thing jailbroken and install longitude as a background services. as long as he/she doesnt update the phone, even if the sim changes you can track it down and personally deliver a gratifying punch, whilst getting your phone back.

B.

nope he still "loses". a bricked iphone can be sold for parts probably for a minimum $200

Outreach 11-08-2011 06:09 AM

How did you lose the thing in the first place?

I put my phone and keys on the table everysingle time. I wanna be able to hear my pager remote go off if my car is fucked with, and i want my phone in front of me. I'm sitting down damnit you think i'm gonna be wearing a jacket??? Going in pants pocket for a ringing phone while eating is a hassle.

my phone and wallet are stuck to me like my nuts. If somebody tried to steal my phone, it would be like them grabbing my sack.

Sack being grabbed = beat down.

just like everybody had said in past posts, Never ever, leave your shit unattended. And chances are, if your wallet is on the table in front of you, i bet there are 3-4 guys hoping for you to walk off for 10 secs so they can get their chance.
