Ticketed for walking on rail road tracks

I already paid the ticket it was for 115 but the place i went to took 25 dollars off are they supposed to? i paid the ticket today and got it yesterday if that makes a difference.

LSF22 07-09-2011 01:09 PM

Did you pay at city hall? Usually if you pay the ticket within a time frame of when you were issued the ticket, they give you a "discount" on your fine

*they have with me when I've got tickets.... not 100% sure if that's how it actually works...

Qmx323 07-09-2011 01:17 PM

yeah if you pay within xx amount of days you get a reduction

Jas29 07-09-2011 01:23 PM

ooh okay thanks guys i never even knew u could get a ticket for that

jlenko 07-09-2011 01:36 PM

I work for the railway.. and for once, I'm glad to hear about someone being caught on them. By the police this time..

Usually.. it's the train that catches you. And you will always lose that one.. it's a mess.

LSF22 07-09-2011 01:47 PM

Just out of curiosity, why WERE you walking on the tracks...

Soundy 07-09-2011 01:51 PM

I have a more important question: where's sebberry to decry this obvious affront to personal freedom? Walking on tracks, illegal?? The outrage!

Funny you should mention that. I was more interested in where the spelling and grammar police were. Too busy ticketing people for talking too quickly I suppose.

how the fuck does someone get hit by a train??? the people getting hit are people who are choosing to get hit and giving out tickets won't stop that.

thats like giving people tickets for walking on a bridge. some people decide to jump but most are just walking to get somewhere. shouldn't penilize everyone.

stupid law.

"how the fuck does someone get hit by a train??? "

How about being drunk/stoned or maybe even listenng to I-Pod. Get the tunes blasting in your ear buds and you don't hear anything. Had a kid on a skateboard riding towards me right down the centre of the street. He was listening to his I-pod and he skated right at me in spite of me blasting my horn four times. I braked and swerved away from hitting him and he finally noticed when he was about 10 feet away from my hood. I seem to remember press reports saying that it is quite common for people listening to tunes getting killed by trains when they didn't hear them coming. I agree that Darwin is behind these types of deaths.

For example...

That's right: they're not choosing it themselves; they are Darwin's chosen ones :okay:

Isn't walking on the railway considered trespassing? Is that not the ticket you get?

Yes it is. Railway tracks are private property. People should really be more concerned with what travels on said tracks, not the ticket.

Ok, I have to interject here because this sounds all too familiar.

If you're speeding in a car it's usually something else that causes you to crash (following too close, blow a light, etc..)

If you're walking on the rail lines with iThings in your ears and get hit by the train, wouldn't it be somewhat reasonable to assume your chances would have been a lot better if your ears weren't plugged with music?

jaggermouth 07-13-2011 09:35 AM

Your chances of not getting hit by a train are greatly increased by not walking on the rails.
I don't feel bad for the people who get hit, I feel bad for the engineer who has to have that image in his head for the rest of his life.

zulutango 07-13-2011 11:01 AM

Not walking on or close to the railway tracks should exclude you 100% from getting hit by a train, unless tains no longer travel on rails...I mean, have you ever seen a steering wheel on a train?

You need to go deeper.

*edit*, confirmed the story, it was told to me incorrectly

On November 21, 1996, 17-year-old Paul WM Benner lost his life while preventing his friend from being struck by a commuter train in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Mr. Benner and his friend had missed their late afternoon bus and, because of the cold weather, decided to take a shortcut home by walking along the train tracks. They had thought they would hear a train coming but when they heard the whistle blow, it was too late to escape the braking locomotive that was bearing down on them. The friend froze in shock. Without hesitation or regard for his own personal safety, Mr. Benner lunged towards her and pushed her out of the way. Because of his prompt and courageous action, the woman escaped certain death, but Mr. Benner was unable to clear the tracks in time and he sustained fatal injuries. For his actions, he was posthumously awarded the Star of Courage.

LSF22 07-13-2011 12:17 PM

Moral: Just don't walk on the damn tracks

I have smoked a lot of weed in my life and I have never been stoned enough to get hit by a train, I have definitely have been drunk enough though.

Have you ever smoked weed? were you stoned enough to get hit by a train?

jackal 07-13-2011 02:33 PM

just to finnish my point. if your walking on the tracks while drunk/stoned then the ticket should be for public drunkeness because thats the issue. again anyone in their right mind has about as good a chance of getting hit by a train while walking along the tracks as being struck by lightning.

don't get me wrong, i've never walked along train tracks. i see no point. but its just a stupid ticket, thats all.

jlenko 07-14-2011 04:06 AM

Trains are much more frequent than lightning bolts, but thanks for coming out.

I've been with the guys cleaning up a fatality... spray-washing the un-used pieces of brain tissue that were left on the brake rigging was pretty much the worst I've seen back at the shop. Pretty disgusting. That crew is still out of service, incident was four years ago.

I'm a volunteer for the Critical Incident responder program also. I'm often the first person to talk to the crew post-incident, and I've heard lots of gruesome stories. It even starts to get to me sometimes.. though I've never been involved in one personally.

not even relevent to my point but ok. oh and call me incensitive but that crew needs to man up.

This is a critical part of the process after such an incident. But then...this statement...coming from you really surprises me!

Simnut, how often does your son speed?

Oh, that's right. He lost his licence. Sorry about that.
Kind of a contradiction! Hope you don't use that attitude during a critical debrief!

You have no idea what it's like, do you. Having that feeling of no control, that the situation is out of hand, constantly questioning what you could have done better. That crew needs to man up? If you can get over a human death so easily, I truly am sorry for you.
