question for the brown members of rs
 

okay so why is goof considered such a grievous insult, is it a homonym or something?

personally i dont find it insulting in the slightest...but ive seen many a fight result from this word

Lol on bodybuilding.com I called the guys in the NHL thread goofs like 5 pages followed of why ppl hate being called that and how I wouldn't last a second in jail calling someone a goof

Needless to say my next 10 posts all had the word goof in them

If you're insulted by someone calling you a goof and somehow see that insult as racially charged you probably have an IQ below 60.

In jail being called a "GOOF" is the worse thing. Along the lines of being called a RAT. If you got called a goof and don't stand up for yourself you'll basically be easy pickings.

Why is it that way? Who knows, to normal people you associate goof with goofy. In jail its just one of those terms used to call people out.

It doesn't just apply to brown people. It applies more to people that have gone through the criminal justice system regardless of ethnicity.

Yep it's a major insult in prison.

i call everyone a goof but in a playful way, some kept saying "i dont like that word" and id try telling them i dont mean it like that! haha but hmm, this is new to me now

The child molester thing is new to me. Never heard that one before. But yes, as others have mentioned, the term "goof" is hugely disrespectful to those who have been inside. Fighting words to say the least.

eh i asked a lot of ppl who have been "inside" after reading this and they had no clue goof meant that or maybe they're goofs and they didnt want to admit knowing what it meant :lol
