I hold doors open for people yeah... after i walk through it first.
Unless they look like they physically need it, like some super old person or someone with their hands full, then no, even if i'm with a girl, i walk through first 80% of the time.
if it's one of those double doors like at a bank, if i walk through first and hold the door open, usually the person that walks through holds the second door open for me in some way or another.

Didn't you know chivalry died with womens rights?
Or you could just do what I do on dates, which is to run ahead and hold the door closed. If women are equals to men they should be at least able to open the door just a little.

Similar thing happened to my wife. She held the door open for a person in a wheelchair, and they bitched at her as they went by... like what the fuck, some people just want to be nice...
One time I tried to help a crippled little old man open a door, while they were opening it. He didn't know I was there (turns out he was also retarded, I didn't know this) and when I opened the door, he was still holding onto the handle, so went flying with the door! Almost knocked the poor guy onto his ass.. I felt bad about that, but my apologies went unheeded (he just kind of ignored me and continued on)
I still have the habit of holding the door open for people, and usually they thank me. In crowded ares in hong kong though, you will get 300 people trying to shove through the narrowed opening, so you have to be careful or you'll get run over. Hong kong people will do ANYTHING POSSIBLE to not have to open a door. They do this thing I call the "hong kong shuffle" where they slide through the narrowed opening possible. Whenever I see a door slowly closing, with 4 or 5" of space left, I always look for someone to do it. And 90% of the time, somone does it! If there is at least 0.1cm of space left for them to fit through, they'll slide through it sideways.
I know I know, cool stories bro.. I'm bored at work |

Wow, that sucks. She must be one of those proactive fems who hates the world, or hates herself so much she is looking for a fight.
Like the saying goes, "you can't love other people, if you don't love yourself".
Then again, some people are just rude. Myself, I open doors, say thank you, your welcome, etc. Other day I had a full load in my hands, was following some guy into my apartment, and he just slams the door in my face. It was so rude, I actually had a laugh.
The one good thing though, is that it tends to be older people who are rude. Say what you want about the newest generation, but from what I see, they do show some manners. Posted via RS Mobile |

We're still standing at the door, by the way...and about 30 seconds have elapsed of her ranting at me. Just as I say how I would've opened the door for anyone, an older dude in his 40s or 50s was heading into the same store. I open the door for him and he says "Thank you, sir.". I nod back and look back at the feminist chick. | I still hold the door for everyone too! I haven't ever gotten crap for it though, and would probably just tell her to fuck off and keep going if that ever happened to me.

I hold the door regardless of who it is. If it's a family, I'll hold the door. If I see someone's coming out of a store, I hold the door for them. I just give other people the right of way to avoid the awkward confusion of both trying to pass through a doorway at the same time.
Likewise, if I see someone coming through a door behind me, I'll hold the door for them, or at least hold it ajar so they can come through and just hold the door open instead of having to re-open it.
It's simple common sense and manners.

Wow that was totally uncalled for. What a bitch. No shit she can open her own door, but its a common act of courtesy to open it for others. I'm all for feminism, but some women take it too far and turn it into man hating. Imagine being her husband. Jesus.
Don't let a thing like that stop you from opening doors for others. Small gestures like holding open doors and comments like "ladies first" don't go unnoticed by women.
I don't mind opening my own doors, but I definitely appreciate when anybody holds a door open for me and I always say 'thanks.' Chivalry is definitely less common now, especially in men under 35, I've noticed. Might be why I appreciate it so much when men do simple things such as a gesture for you to enter or exit elevators first, or to go through a doorway first. It's not that it's necessary, its just a nice little bonus.

As for holding open the door, I haven't been chewed out, yet. Really, holding a door open for someone is just common courtesy, just say "thanks" and move on. I'll respond with a nod, or "no worries".
