Mac OSX Lion

I downloaded and installed OSX Lion today and played with it for a few hours. Honestly, I was expecting more visual changes. A lot of the additions from what I can see have to do with networking and Apple integration.

I do find it a big slower than Snow Leopard as well. Browsing and opening up windows takes a little longer than it did on my Snow Leopard and/or Leopard.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Things you like, things you don't like about the new Mac OSX Lion upgrade...Feel free to share.

Gonna keep Leopard on my MBA. It would probably slow it down..

I agree with the OP

I was hoping for more eye candy for sure.

The only thing I don't really like about OSX Lion is that I can go back on Chrome with 3 fingers without disbaling the fullscreen swap thing.

Other than that I'm really liking Lion. I haven't really noticed any speed differences between SL and Lion mostly because I've only used SL on my MBP for 2 days lol.

Mission control is neat and it helps me control and see my workflow a little bit better. I'm starting to use spaces more than I have in the past with SL. The full screen apps on separate different tabs is a lot more convenient as well.

fullscreen swap is 4fingers when u enable the two or three finger swipe for chrome..im using it now.

Im loving Lion and Mission Control, thats the best part. I've almost strictly keep my tweetdeck+itunes+mail open on fullscreen, then i just either swipe to them or go to mission control!

Does Lion still have that beautiful Snow Leopard wallpaper photo?

I'm holding off getting Lion for now.

mrks 07-22-2011 08:20 AM

I installed Lion on my iMac, but most of the adjustments post install are to make it behave like SL.
Most of my trackpad options have been switched back to the way they behave in SL.

I don't like how Mission Control groups all the windows. I normally use expose to switch to different windows in Chrome.

My biggest gripe are the background changes with SMB shares. Now my media player cannot even see my iMac, which is my media server.

i really like mission control and airdrop. For $30, its a good deal.

any user experience with application compatibility?

Don't think ntfs-3g currently works with Lion. Error messages keep popping up so I had to uninstall it.

Also lost single finger swipe forward/backward in finder and many other apps (I use magic mouse), so I am not too happy with that.

Other than that i think Lion is alright, just a bunch of aesthetic upgrades. I found myself using double finger swipe for space switching more now, instead of the hot corners I frequently used in Snow Leopard.

worth the 30 bucks to upgrade from snow leopard?

JesseBlue 07-22-2011 08:31 PM

I would just keep SL for now... I spend a lot of time using the iPad nowadays anyway

When it comes down to it, I'll have to take some time to get used to the new system. I doubt I'll be going back; rather just learn to use the new features more efficiently.

Tweaking all the different gestures will be the biggest thing for me. If I put on one setting, it eliminates the option for me to do something else with my fingers and trackpad. Kind of annoying because it's all trial and error.

Also, I THINK I'm noticing that the volume is quieter now on my laptop than it was before...

^no, its linked to iTunes account just like any other app. As long as your computer is a authorized and linked with your iTunes account, you can download as many times.

Nope just bought a new imac and it came with a "free update" to Lion. Claimed it on my itunes a/c and DL it on my MBP/Air. Not bad, free OS upgrade for all my Macs. :fullofwin:

roastpuff 07-30-2011 11:25 PM

If you get the thumbdrive version it's pretty much unlimited installs. ;)

Senna4ever 07-30-2011 11:29 PM

Download Lion, but before you install it, copy the dmg file so you can use it on multiple computers.

Me neither but you can enable expose (3 finger swipe down) from what I remember when I played with it for a few minutes in the store.

What do you guys think of the 'natural' scrolling change? Are you using it?

KuSouL 08-09-2011 05:55 PM

it slowed down my macbook significantly and everything is extremely inconvenient now .... I HATE IT

LiquidTurbo 08-09-2011 05:56 PM

^ White macbook?

eddoe 08-09-2011 07:43 PM

I have also noticed a slowdown on my older macbook (last of the black macbooks)

LiquidTurbo 08-09-2011 07:57 PM

If you had a macbook that old, why would you upgrade? Of course you'll see slowdowns.
