Michelin 3.5-Ton Garage Jack | Canadian Tire

I use the 3.5 ton michelin jack, usually on sale for like $99. 22" of lift, works fine on my CRV.

It has nothing to do with the adaptor.. but the base and height of the rim of the seat. Since most of the pressure will be on the rim of cast aluminium saddle of the jack.. which I think is too low to start, where there is shift in weight, you will have the adaptor breaking through the lip (or moving over the lip) potentially causing a catastrophic failure of the assembly with you under it.

If you want use an adaptor, I suggest getting a iron jack. Something like this. You will remove the rubber pad to fit in your adaptor.

In your picture I would turn the seat / adaptor combination towards the right by about 45.. so that the bar will rest on the lowest part of the seat just in case.

[QUOTE=Little Tea;7920654

For what it's worth, the jack adapter is made and sold by Flyin' Miata, in my opinion one of the best Miata shops in North America, they race what they sell and it's designed to save time as the car can be jacked up right in the middle, allowing access to both tires at once. When the jack is underload the friction force should be enough to hold the adapter in its place. Countless people have used it on autoX and track days all over North America and to the best of my knowledge, what you describe hasn't happened yet, tho it remains a possibility. I thank you for sharing your concern with me, but I really wish to put it to good use since I received it as a gift from my buddy, and my crappy tire jack has a lifting base far too small for it.

VitaminG and Godwin,

Thanks a lot for sharing the info, you guys are awesome.

Godwin, I understand your concern, that's why I always work on level floor and never dive under without jack stands, you can't fully trust that adapter just like I can't fully trust hydraulics. My skills are very much limited but I do take safety very seriously.

Spoon.EK9
Thanks for sharing the deal, I suspect the motomaster and HFT jack might have been made in the same factory in China, lol. A $40 difference in price is "fair" considering we are buying local in Canada. I might just pick that up instead of taking half a day and 20 bucks in gas driving to Bellingham.

Thanks again guys

Swung by CDN Tire this afternoon to pick up other items, checked out the jack.
It was everything I had wanted, but at more than 60lbs I had trouble moving it as freely as I would have liked. Then went to Lordco to check out their HFT equivalent jack, aluminum body is light! Sadly it's around 200 bucks locally.

I don't really need a jack right now, right now. I just finished all the tire changes this season. I will make an effort to either buy and ship to Pt. Roberts or work that into one of my USA day trips when the chance comes.

Your car reminds me of my love with Hondas back in HS, it was a simpler time for me and a simpler time for Honda. As a teenager I dreamed countless times of owning a B18 EK, later a K20 EK. Kudos to you for living my HS dream.

Harbour Freight isn't THAT far away, i'd just take the extra drive down to get it (20-30mins each way). I work close to the border but the way I see it, every time I go down I can save $20 in gas, so essentially you're not paying anything in gas to go down. If you go at the right times its a ~5-10 min wait each way non-nexus.

Do none of you not have lowered cars? No motomaster shitty jack I've ever used was ever able to go low enough to get under the pinch welds on any of my lightly lowered cars. From my Skyline to RX7 and now my Miata. And I am in no way "slammed."

It's not the max lift height that really matters its the lowest that it can go that matters.

yeah having a nice low pro one makes a difference. i usually drive up on a piece of 2 x 4, use a low pro to jack up one side of the car, and max height usually is an issue so after that i slide my regular 3 ton jack under the cross member it jack it up from there

Sure, not as cheap as the ones in the States but, local and 1 year warranty. It' looks like they're all pretty much the same anyways.

Hope they work out for you guys.

Yeah, I used to do the same. But once you get a real jack that fits you'll never go back. With how often I would change wheels for track days and AutoX, the wood block trick is just not going to work anymore.

I was at the Costco in Bellingham recently (hoarding milk) and saw a 3-1/4 Ton jack for around $100. Don't remember the brand though. But it looked very similar to the one that the OP posted.
