^ you have no idea how many "almost accidents" i've seen as a result of the mix of students who pass by there everytime, and first time users coming onto campus.
It's a stupid design and I don't understand what they couldn't have stuck with the intersection

17/25. sleepy and didn't feel like reading is my excuse. 
but the one about the pedestrians walking on the road without a sidewalk... how are they supposed to walk facing traffic? shuffling sideways isn't really a natural way to walk.

If you walk on the right side (in the same direction as traffic) cars will be coming up behind you and it can be dangerous as you can't see them and they don't know that you are aware of them.
If you walk on the left side, facing oncoming traffic, you can see cars approaching and they can see that you're aware of them in case they need to pull over or turn into a driveway for example.
No, they are not saying you should walk sideways facing the centre of the road  | |
