I've been told by someone that one of my favorite places to eat "Fatty's Chinese Kitchen" has been closed due to the International Market Closing. Is this true?????

I loved going to that place because it was cheap and quick! Closest thing that I can find should I have the urge for Chinese food in the area. I'm afraid that I may have no choice but to go all the way to Chinatown for that kind of food now. It was always a great place to go because it's so close to where I normally stay and only a block from Waikiki Beach.

Does anyone know of any similar joints around the area?

fliptuner 04-26-2014 01:17 PM

Awww, what? That probably means the Korean BBQ place shut down too.

I guess the closest thing would be Char Siu House and Happy Garden Inc., both in Chinatown.

Going back to Honolulu in August. Tickets from YVR to HNL are going for ~$600 right now!

beatdownvictim 06-13-2014 10:18 PM

That's not bad is it? I used to pay 500 on westjet for early DEC but it's gone up since

Where u staying?

Staying at the Hyatt Regency

Looking to fly to HNL in December during the break. It's pretty pricey already for dates after the 19th. Does anyone have experience booking during that time? Not sure if I should just lock in the price now or am I booking too damn early?

beatdownvictim 06-20-2014 10:54 PM

Everyone jacks up prices for 3rd week of DEC and on

You aren't going to see much discount unless it's a timeshare owner who can't offload his stay short notice

Heading back to Honolulu later this week.

Any good discount codes for car rentals right now?

Not a discount code but if you have a costco membership, I find that costco travels offers the best rates.

Do you know if they check for Costco membership when you're picking up the car?

Discount Hawaii Car Rental Maui Car Rentals Honolulu Kona Kauai Hilo Waikiki

Just compare it with other car rental sites and you will see.

Thanks but I ended up renting from Budget.

3 day intermediate car rental from HNL and dropping it off at their Waikiki location inside the Hyatt for $160. Everything else was around that price so I just decided to go with that.

Ch28 08-24-2014 06:29 PM

Here right now in Waikiki and it's a hot one. Poured rain for about 15 minutes this morning and its been a scorcher ever since.

I'm sad that the Hawaii international market is gone now. There's a giant wall where it use to be and it just doesn't feel the same without it.

anybody stayed at the Moana Surfrider in Honolulu?

Yes, I know its a baller high end hotel. The fiance wants to go in November. =/

Ch28 08-30-2014 01:03 PM

FYI - Iyasume Musubi moved locations. The old location use to be right behind the Hyatt Regency, now it's located across the street from Me's BBQ. The new location is much bigger and nicer

beatdownvictim 08-30-2014 11:09 PM

Hmm 2 of my fav places
I hit up the small one across from Ross too if I don't want to walk that far from the Beachwalk

I refuse to because its haunted. LOL

http://0.tqn.com/d/gohawaii/1/0/1/R/...surfrider4.jpg

second floor , second window from the right. Apparently some lady died there ( violently? ) not sure.

couple years ago i went to the hotel and i asked the front desk if it was haunted. They didnt want to say that it was , but they mentioned on the side that some people have seen a lady roam the hallways at night.

Ch28 08-31-2014 12:10 PM

I wouldn't be surprised because of how old the hotel is.

I wouldn't pay to stay at the Hyatt Regency. It's very Holiday Inn'ish with an inflated price.

copy pasta from my old posts:
added good places to eat:
Arachino - italian
Maraduke - Udon noodles
Todai - Buffet with lots of Sushi.
Red Lobster- Corn biscuits. Mmm.
Cheesecake Factory- massive line ups. go early.
Ono hawaiian food. REAL authentic hawaiian food.
Rainbow drive in - good junk food.
Paradise Cove - Great Luau show.
Duke's - nice atmosphere, decent food. hidden away beside outrigger hotel on the strip in Mini mall. beachside tables too.
Tiki's - kind of a Red Robin feel. typical fast food.
Burgers in Paradise. - name sums it up. burger joint.
Ziggy's - fast food in Alamoana Mall. its at the bottom of Sears, not the food court. if you like chili, you have to try theirs.

been to Hawaii 4-5 times. it my go to place forever.
Don't eat at: Seashore - its a dive that gives lots of coupons.

Thanked for your informative and entertaining post, but personally I would NOT eat at those American cookie cutter chains that we have just south of the border while in the tropical island state of HAWAII:
Cheesecake Factory, Todai, Red Lobster, Chilis.

That's like flying to Japan to eat Burger King.

I'm heading there again in September I'm so excited! Last time I went was '09. There's lots of food places that I didn't try last time because this thread didn't exist.

In addition to everyone's recommendations like Udon, Ono's, Side Street Inn, ME BBQ.
Others I'm thinking about hitting up:
Da Poke Shack (Rated #1 in the USA on Yelp)
Sushi Izakaya Gaku
Helena's Hawaiian Food

Used to go every year for our anniversary since we got married there but with kids its totally diffetent .

All this talk about food..

Obsideon 07-17-2015 10:32 PM

Flights booked! :awwyeah:
Now I'm trying to find a place to stay... omg everything along Waikiki is so expensive! :okay: Any tips? Maybe I'll try PriceLine...
Oh and regarding rental cars, since my plan is to not have a plan and just relax and go with the flow.
Are there car rental shops close by the main area on the random day I decide to hit up the North Shore or do I have to book in advance?

SoNaRWaVe 07-18-2015 02:37 AM

Always better to book in advance. Its a nice drive and it would suck if you can't get a car the day you walk into a random rental place.

Last time I booked but when I walked into the place, the place was packed. I think it was Enterprise or Avis that I went with.
