What profession you guys gonna start with?

dyan 04-25-2012 01:10 AM

This game has caught my attention along with diablo 3.. I tried the beta for D3 and don't really have anything to compare it with since I haven't really played this genre of games nor have I tried GW1. Can anyone give me an insight on the similarities and differences?

I'm leaning towards starting with Necro. Interested in the Guardian as well. Apparently there's 5 character slots in the beta, so I'll probably end up messing around with all of them.

Gonna see if I could find/join a guild and see what server they're gonna choose. I don't have any Guild Wars friends. :alone:

strykn 04-27-2012 10:44 PM

There will be more weekend beta events prior to release.

dyan 04-28-2012 05:57 PM

Happened to be "sold out" LOL

tdeweyn 04-28-2012 10:11 PM

I'm thinking of purchasing this game, but don't you think the gameplay is kind of slow in multiplayer?

strykn 04-28-2012 11:51 PM

They say that about every mmorpg that was released after WoW.

yeaaaa the day before diablo 3 :)

Well the release date has been set for Aug 28th... Since I'm bored out of my mind with D3 I think ill pre-order it.

'Guild Wars 2' launching August 28th | The Verge

I'm honestly just reading up on the game now and so far everything looks great... especially the way they're handling the levelling grind and playing with friends who maybe hire level then you.

Is anyone in Beta? How is the game?

J.C 06-28-2012 08:13 PM

I was in beta a couple weeks ago and its meh

There were only humans, charr, and norn available.

It was hard to play with friends that are different races because it takes literally forever to travel across your land. I tried to get to the norn place, but I couldn't find out how. I walked all the way over and I ended up being blocked by mountains and stuff. There are warps around everywhere, but you can only use them if you unlock them (you unlock them by going to them at least once). Other then walking/using warps, I could not find a way to get charr/norn land.
The story was easy at first and you get far ahead to a point where the enemies start to 1 hit you and you get a bit stuck.

The graphics were great even at the lowest settings. In PVP, you get all your profession's skills and you can try them all out, level doesn't matter in PVP as everybody's stats are made equal and there are shops that give you free items so you can customize your character for PVPing

I also like how you can go underwater and you can kill stuff under there and how each of your stories are determined by what choices you make

I played the mesmer, thief, and engineer classes and my favourite was the thief.
Mesmer's are cool because they can make clones and stuff, but the clones don't do damage.
I didn't like engineer's because I don't like the fact that you only basic attack with 1 gun even though your holding 2. (but i think it's like that for every job)
My fav was the thief because I personally like going invisible and being ninja n stuff.

So far, the game has been mehhh, the big disadvantage is how its hard to play with your friends that are different races, but that's just me, I never played GW1 before so I don't know a lot about the game yet

bakasam 06-29-2012 01:02 AM

You know there is a portal you can go to which leads to the portals of every "home city" I dont remember the name cause I haven't played the more recent betas. But essentially meeting up isn't hard to do at all.

J.C 06-29-2012 01:15 AM

^ oh didn't know about that =/

Narayan 06-29-2012 12:43 PM

ya I heard about the portal too and once you unlocked way points you can warp anywhere you want... so no 30minute Griffin flights across the map or waiting for boats.

Thanks for your review on the classes... When I first read about the profession choices I thought the engineer would be my first selection but after watching some youtube videos and reading your review I doubt it will.

ShadowBun 06-29-2012 01:21 PM

hard thing in beta is always the different servers
one second ur in overflow where ur friend is in the main server etc

After I hit around level 10, it was pretty cool.
You can use skills to equip yourself with grenades, flamethrowers etc
and you get a whole new skill set which was pretty cool
grenades were hard aim and use for me, but the flamethrower was pretty cool
engineers not too bad, just not for me

Narayan 07-01-2012 10:07 AM

Has anyone played around with the Guardian or the Mesmer?

I heard Mesmer was super OP but since the last beta go around got nerfed quite a bit.
