Highway 1 east off ramp from willingdon.. friends car. It had just been serviced by the stealership and they left a nice fat air bubble in the coolant loop. Needle hit the red and car started to smoke ... spend about 40 minutes trying to figure out how to fix it, finally just bled the system and it was all good after that.

Hey this thread made me think and even thought their were minor but costly problems here and there, my e46 325i hasnt broken down/made me immobile in the 7years i had it. :)

One of my friends just got back from Afghanistan after some private contracting work, the RG32 he was travelling in broke down out of the blue on a road in the middle of nowhere, after exiting the vehicle, he and his team did a quick sweep of the area and found an IED just 15 yards away, pure luck they broke down.

Reading these stories, it sounds like the cars some of you drive don't seem very safe, or they're pieces of junk! :p

Apart from a few dead batteries (because I left the lights on), the cars I've driven haven't "broken down" (knock on wood)...

Cars I've driven in recent memory:

early 90s Acura Integra RS
1997 Acura Integra GS-R
late 90s Nissan Pathfinder
late 90s BMW 540i
2002 BMW 330ci (current)
2004 Acura RSX-s
mid-2000 Benz ML500 (current)
2005 Honda Pilot (current)

I'm sure they gave you a hard time alright! :troll:

most cases are either coolant or overheating problems according to this thread

The only reason the brake line blew was because the mud tire lugs grabbed at the rubber line and tore some chunks out of it. We were out wheeling with the front swaybar disconnected and I forgot to hook the bungy cords onto the lines to pull them back and away from the tires. The Rubicon Express springs really allows the axle to articulate when rock crawling.

I guess being a piece of junk would only be in the eyes of the beholder. I built the 350 engine with a mild cam and flat top pistons, lockers in the axles, lifted, 33 inch Swampers, on board air, etc. It's not a looker but did everything I wanted it to do. That was the only time it ever broke down on me and only for half an hour.

I hate when that shit happens, i was draining my radiator out at mission and because its an older car theres no drain plug. I had to disconnect the hose and it all sprayed right up into my face. Got a good mouthful and eyeful.

Battery died at gary point, battery died at richmond center upstairs parkade, battery died at the end of no.1/river road. I like trance music too much, trance and girls. Bad combo when the car is off.

Oh and then my motor blew up driving down the 91.

After work, Christmas day, Driving home eager to open my presents.
Going up Rupert in a 95 dodge neon..... half way up the hill and BOOM, bitch runs out of gas!

wasn't my truck but my freinds 90's F150 fuel pump went. Luckily its lifted so he had to build something out of the fire wood we had, in order to slowly lower the gas tank up while he took out the pump w/out braking his lines. This was at davis lake.

yep, that was a good two hours on the side of the road.

my car shut off out of no where, no power, going uphill on 72nd, pulled over right away with whatever momentum I had. couldn't start it. took me almost 2 hours to figure out, but the immobilizer ground became loose. better that than something important.

doma 08-13-2011 02:06 PM

pulling into the twilight drive-in, in Langley, just as i pulled into my spot, my upper rad hose burst, nothing some ducktape and distilled water couldn't temporarily fix for the drive home!

OTG-ZR2 08-13-2011 04:22 PM

My MSD coil died at school one time. Lordco was a 5 min walk away luckily, so tossed a new one on and was mobile again.

Other minor issues but still able to drive my vehicle:

Heater hose burst 5 min away from home, just continued to drive it. Motor had a nice hot shower with 2 week old coolant :|
Water pump X2, just started to leak.
Alternator died, but still had enough juice to pick up new one and drive home.
Starter died, but able to bump start due to manual tranny and creative parking.
U-joint started to click badly.
Dead batteries due to leaving interior lights on, listening to music too long.
