He was probably a left lane hoger. There has to be more to the story.
If he was a left lane hoger and was doing some stupid annoying shit to piss the driver off, I would say he deserved those punches... not getting hit by the car though.

It's times like this I'm glad I keep an 18''pipe wrench under my driver seat.
Seriously though, many drivers in Vancouver have severe and uncontrollable road rage. Just yesterday I had a black truck honking his horn and tail gating me because I was going 30k in a park zone; I did nothing to provoke the driver, I just obeyed the law and in the process forced him to do so as well. Clearly someone willing to ram someone with a truck is not in a logical state of mind, so I'll give the victim the benefit of the doubt that he didn't actively provoke the maniac.

To add to the list of people saying what they carry for protection, this is why I carry a steering wheel club behind the seat.
But no, I'm not surprised this happened, this intersection is notorious for idiots. People will block the intersection in traffic by turning when there's no space then other people start coming head on and honking. They have signs saying no right turns on the red, yet people will honk and even swerve around and shove into traffic if they can.
Its also strange that this even happened, there is nearly 95% of the time a police car sitting on the sidewalk at the intersection or there will be a cop sitting next to the intersection in the parking lot. Police station is just down the road as well, and its amazing that nobody caught the pickup as it left either

actually come to think of it...taylor and marine..isn't that a really busy intersection?
correct me if im wrong, because i have never driven that way at night.
there has to be at least a few people who witnessed it and watch / read the news, and call in to report any info.
and ya have something handy in case you get a confrontation. most of the drivers i know have been confronted some time in their lives by pricks.
my go to weapon is my steering wheel lock.
edit: interesting how this incident, as well as the incidents involving my dad and his co workers, Riddle and MindBomber all involved a black truck

Shit happens, this is the wrong way to deal with it, and its sad people here think its deserved. | the guy pinning him and trying to run him over was not deserved, but trust me ive been in situations where people put me in REALLY dangerous spots on purpose (and for no reason but to be an asshole), where if you were with me and we pulled up next to them, you'd get out and shit kick them too!
once i was driving on the knight street bridge in the fast lane, doing about 60 around rush hour. 2 total rednecks in a truck wanted to merge left, knew i was there, just squeezed me out.... i had to slam the brakes after i realized they had no intention of backing off. later then went back to the slow lane to exit to marine drive, and they just both looked over and laughed about it. some guys definitely have it coming.

I wouldn't carry anything in my car that I can use a weapon. I don't feel like getting charged over a stupid road rage incident. Best thing to do is get the plate number and call 911.

Plus you pull out a weapon who knows what the other person has to match it , don't forget they are the ones that can't control their anger.

The weapon is strictly (in my case) for self defense. I have to right to feel safe in my own car.
It is NOT / NEVER will be used as way to tell someone to get away from me and my car.
The only time it will be used is if I am attacked.
Besides, I don't have anything that's sole purpose is to be a weapon. My steering wheel lock just so happens to be handy and strong.

That's why under no circumstances should you step out of your car (unless it's on fire or something), unless instructed by an officer. If he didn't stepped out, the worst would be a few dings or scratches on his car.
Having said that, why r ppl always in such a hurry? I drive on Hwy 1 between Garlardi and Boundary everyday. I do 90 on the slow lane (limit is 80) and everyone speeds pass me doing 120 or something, only to get caught by the traffic before 2nd narrow. Why drive so fast just to stop sooner? I never get it.

Honestly, i highly doubt the guy just stepped out and punched him in the face, no one in the right mind would kick someones ass because he was hoggin the left at 40. The guy that got hit prob at least fingered him or something. And even if that isn't the case and the guy is actually innocent and didn't do anything.... its not considered road rage, that guy in the truck had anger problems in general.

Like you are really dumb (antione dodson) For all those that say there is more to it..... if the people that triggered road rage knew what it was they were doing wrong....... they wouldn't be doing it in the first place. People dont intentionally drive 40km in the fast lane to piss other people off despite what you think.

Why cops dont just sit there and issue tickets vs setting up elaborate speed traps is beyond me. Quote:

I drive following a very simple rule: Don't drive in a way that will impede the flow of others. I will drive in the left lane if there are vehicles in front of me blocking traffic, since I will speed up if the lane clears and nothing is gained for the person behind me if I were to let him pass. If the left lane is clear, pull to the right, if someone faster comes up behind you. If you're in a park zone and someone faster wants to pass, let them.

I don't find the left lane issue to be a problem in the city. In fact, I think most drivers here are quite level headed and while in some instances (two drivers driving same speed for instance) some people may get quite impatient, only what 0.00001% give or take some 0's of the population actually rage to the point of hurting someone.
As mentioned above, people don't intentionally drive 40 in the left lane to piss people off. A lot of people think both lanes are equal due to the fact that it is not emphasized much at all in Roadsense (I can't speak for the pre-GLP days but I'm quite sure my dad's old book didn't make a big deal about how to use different lanes properly) so unless ICBC or the VPD come out with commercials, signs, whatever reminding (more like educating) people about lane hierarchy, people will remain ignorant.

Unlike the states we dont have signs all over the place stating that the left lane is for passing. Nor did they teach that in driving school. If more cops would give people tickets for hogging the left lane ..... well that wont happen until they make it a passing lane only like the states.

So for people saying "2 sides" does it matter? I mean, what could the other side reasonably be that'll make this okay.
2 sides or not, crushing a guy in between 2 cars (attempted murder) is wayyy too out in the left field to pull the "2 side negation card."

Why can't drivers ever admit to their own mistakes? I admit to mistakes when I drive, so why can't others?
If people actually accept the fact that they are not perfect drivers and are able to admit to mistakes and not act like a complete ape in these kind of situations, there would be less incidents like these.
Unless, I am the only imperfect driver on the road.

I have to laugh at all you girls saying "That's why I carry a bat/club/stick in/on the trunk/rear seat...etc."
First of all, you would never use it.."Oh yes I would!!" No, you wouldn't. And even if you did pull it out, you would probably get your ass kicked with it twice as bad as you would have without it.
If you actually would use it effectively, you wouldn't need to blab about it in an online forum to pump yourself up.
I am sure it makes you feel better/safer, but that's about it.
If you can't defend yourself with your own fists, a weapon is just going to piss off someone who can even more.
Unless your going to stab or shoot someone (which for a road rage incident is just as stupid as the suspect in the OP) you are just putting yourself in more danger, and likely at risk of prosecution.
I don't remember courts in Canada ruling that hitting an unarmed person with a metal bar to be self defense regardless of their actions.
Or did you think your London Drugs purchased Club was going to fend off a 4000lb truck which was pinning you against your own car?
There are some people on the road who do deserve this kind of treatment; I however don't have the remotest idea if the victim in the OP is one of them, so I will reserve judgement.

There's just so many methods to avoid the situation from escalating,
especially if the guy is outside his vehicle yelling, while you are still inside your vehicle.
All you have to do is drive off and
It would be stupid to step out of your car too with your bat/club/stick and be all tough.
Next thing you know, the guy pulls out a gun and shoots you.
Bet you didn't see that coming when you initially thought placing a "weapon" in your car was such a clever idea.\
The best thing you can do is just drive off.
Also note: it's just retarded to get so frustrated about someone going slow on a left lane if the right lane is open to pass.
Don't be so anal about fast lane vs slow lane. Take the lane that is fastest and weave and stop crying.
