LOL he isn't Kim Jong Il. There would be no way that would happen.

Apple has other great people that can run the company but I really don't think there is another person around that is much of a visionary as Steve Jobs. Whether you like Apple products or not, you can't deny that he's changed the world several times. The Apple II, iPod and iPad all started something crazy and maybe the iMac to a lesser degree, not to mention all the patents Apple holds (lots of which Jobs was involved in development). Even if you HATE Apple products, you have to admit the world lost one of the most innovative people in the industry.

LOL you think MP3 players would be as awesome today without the iPod? Do you remember other MP3 players that were available at the same time as the first iPod? They were garbage. I remember I still used MiniDisc at that time because they were all terrible compared to the iPod.

Fuck Apple and their proprietary dock connector. I hate that Apple products are your only choice if you want integration with things like Car Stereos, Radios, etc...

I can't believe the industry couldn't come out with something open after so many years.

Really? How do you explain the fact that Jobs has over 300 patents where he is listed as the principal inventor or co-inventor?

There are excuses like "they put his name on patents their engineers developed to make him look good" or "they're probably garbage patents anyway". But those are just excuses made up by haters trying to take credit away from a person they dislike, for some reason or another.

Seriously, suggesting Jobs patents were put on inventions he didn't create? That's a sure fire way to get your patent invalidated.

There's a saying that goes "history is written by the victors." It seems like the haters are trying to re-write computer history to try and minimize Jobs impact and contribution. Really quite pathetic.

I know with cars, I don't bother with the connectors anymore. Most modern cars with Bluetooth can control the phone's music player. My car connects and controls all my smartphones wirelessly. Ironically, the odd day I do decide to use my iPhone and I connect it with the dock connector, all it does is control music, I can browse everything on the GPS screen but the phone functions don't work.

I never even though of that. What if this is all an elaborate scheme so Jobs can disappear into anonymity? I'm sure getting mobbed anytime you want to go to Starbucks would suck ass eventually.

I'm a bit of Jobs worshiper myself, I have to admit. I think even if I wasn't an Apple user, I would admire his work and hope he'll pull through.

...but I also think he's an evil genius which is exactly why it's entirely possible he's faking all this so he can build himself an evil lair in a volcano without anyone bothering him.

Apple gives Tim Cook $384 million stock grant

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Steve Jobs took home $1 a year for serving as Apple's CEO. The company's new leader, Tim Cook, is getting a richer deal.

Apple's board has given Cook a restricted stock grant of 1 million shares, Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) reported late Friday in a regulatory filing. Those shares have a market value of $383.6 million, based on the stock's closing price on Friday.

But Cook will collect the shares only if he remains an Apple employee for the next decade. Half of his stock will vest in August 2016, and half will vest five years later, in 2021.

As Apple's chief operating officer, Cook collected an annual salary last year of $800,000 and an additional bonus of $900,000. He also took home a special award from the board for his "outstanding performance" as acting CEO during Jobs' 2009 medical leave: A $5 million cash bonus and a grant of 75,000 shares.

That put Cook's total 2010 compensation at $59 million -- enough to make him one of the tech industry's highest-paid executives.

If that is a real photo of him, then he's most likely in palliative care now, unfortunately. Ugh...cancer is a horrible disease to die from. I hope he does pull through, but it does look bad.

reminds me of what Jack Layton looked like when he told the country he was stepping down.

Cancer usually means a long agonizing death. I hope he goes quickly, so he doesn't suffer. Doctor assisted suicide for me, when it gets that bad. I saw my father go from a strong man to a frail shell of a body in a matter of a few months. Nothing but pain till the end.

Ugh @ the photo.

Now that one photo has been released, I hope that other outlets will respect his privacy and what remains of his dignity.

Think about what he money would do to help finding the cure for cancer. He could leave a legacy beyond any ones beliefs if he did something like that.
