Steve Jobs resigns as CEO of Apple

"Apple’s Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately."

yeah it was expected

I thought he may have passed away already and that they were just keeping it quiet until they got things sorted

with the lack of appearances; his biography coming out; etc etc

its going to be a major hit to Apple to lose such a great leader

twitchyzero 08-24-2011 02:55 PM

a tribute to Mr. Jobs

As an icon in the computer world, let's hope he sticks around for awhile.

Culverin 08-24-2011 03:03 PM

To his health and retirement. He really helped to push the consumer tech boundary.

Also, to hoping the apple gets less dickish.

He'll be dead within the year.

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple''s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple''s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

Must be from all the HP Touchpad sales :troll:

Ch28 08-24-2011 03:14 PM

Guess this also explains all the screaming and crying I hear coming from the Starbucks down the block.

Jsunu 08-24-2011 03:20 PM

I was surpised when he didn't retire years ago.

Vansterdam 08-24-2011 03:26 PM

!MiKrofT 08-24-2011 03:33 PM

F*ck...

!MiKrofT 08-24-2011 04:43 PM

This shouldn't put much of a dent in Apple but we'll see tomorrow.

Jermyzy 08-24-2011 04:46 PM

^Well, actually might be a good buying opportunity :)

Last time I added more stock to my portfolio was when he announced he was going on medical leave and the stock dropped.

StylinRed 08-24-2011 05:03 PM

you know the request to stay on in some form with Apple is just damage control for the expected/suspected crash in share value

Vale46Rossi 08-24-2011 05:35 PM

Seems like Steve Jobs took the perfect time to leave,

With Apple selling stronger than ever, they have reported record high quarterly earnings without any new product release or no holiday boost.

And within a month the next iPhone will be out to boost their sales even more.

Steve Jobs planned everything perfectly for his leave, and for new acting CEO to come in at perfect times.

Steve Jobs changed the technology world and I hope he stays strong and continue to watch Apple grow for many years.

He changed shit all.. his engineers and people that work for him did everything. They deserve all the credit. He's just a face for the company, sure he was quite involved with the company wayy back when he started apple. But then he left the company when it went downhill then rejoined when it started doing well like wtf.

:seriously:
I'm no apple fanboy, i much prefer PCs, but he was definitely a good leader and had the vision it took to get apple to where it is today.

StylinRed 08-24-2011 05:58 PM

lol i just got banned from Engadget because I said their actions displayed/confirmed a Bias towards Apple and boom banned

(they closed commenting and upon reopening were deleting messages that were anti-apple)
