Did Red Bull do this as sort of a promo gift, or did Cruise pay them? (The car even has a T.Cruise decal on it) If he did pay, I wonder how much that cost him.

looks so fun :(

So...

Are F1 cars so good that even Tom Cruise can set some good times?

OR

Is Tom Cruise so good at driving that he can handle himself in a F1 car?

Dude, he flew a fucking Fighter Jet. Pretty sure he can handle one little car.

^

Not sure how much training Tom Cruise had in F1 cars, but he is a licensed pilot and own several airplanes... I don't see the controls on F1 being much more complicated than a plane.

Death2Theft 08-26-2011 08:31 PM

I question his abilities, or are modern f1 cars have so many electronic aids that just about anyone can drive them quickly? They are hinting that he could be "competitive" if he tried? Well how old is he? How old are the most competitive guys in f1? We all know reaction time goes down as you age.

^ guess you didn't read this thread

Is it just me or does it seem like his face is botox'd to hell?

The latter. However, his limits are much lower than the car's.

There are no electronic driver aids on a modern F1 car (no traction control, no stability control, no active suspension). I don't think they're hinting that he would be competitive - just that he could put up "good" times... and there is a difference between good times and competitive times, and competitive times and having the racecraft to rely upon in a race.

Well what do they have now that they didn't back in Sennas day? Recall hearing a few things that are different aside from the power.

Blinky 08-26-2011 11:02 PM

Sequential-shift transmissions come to mind. There are shitloads of electronic gizmos that tweak and optimize parts of the car. However, these gizmos don't directly affect the driver's inputs into the car - the driver still has to apply throttle, brake and steer without, say, an electronic nanny intervening to control yaw.

(Traction control was banned a few years ago).

This is a bit of a sidenote but that vid was bloody awesome. I still go back and watch it again from time to time just to watch some of those mindblowing laps from Senna :eek2:
