DDD's at least tries to go to kind of "gem" hole in the walls whereas man vs food just goes anywhere they have a challenge or extra large portions

Man vs. Food is the epitome of low brow American cuisine, quantity over quality.

^ agree and disagree.
Some episode are just disgusting to watch, not only does he have to eat some shitty 5 lb cheeseburger loaded with bacon + grease, he has to eat another 5 lbs of fries ontop of that. But a lot of the restaurants he goes to are famous for having "the best" pulled pork, or wings, or those burgers with melting cheese in the middle, etc, etc

I honestly don't think the majority of people know who he is. Personally I had no idea until I read this thread, I don't really watch Food Network though.

He's also the host of minute to win it.

He also used to host Guy's Big Bites.
Granted, he has no professional training as a cook, but his personality + the gamenight-and-beer type foods made it pretty enjoyable for me.

Who cares what he wears, he's a TV host and a successful restaurateur. He can be whatever he wants.

It does seem the Food Network is popular with members of Revscene, but for the general public not so much. Having worked in the film/tv side of things and seeing ratings reports daily, the Food Network routinely finishes in the bottom 5 of the 26 Nielsen rated cable networks, averaging just over 1.1 million viewers. None of Food Network's shows crack the top 50 viewed cable shows.

The game show he hosts on NBC, Minute to Win it, routinely finishes 3rd in its time slot well behind Big Brother and So You Think You Can Dance, usually at 4-4.5 million viewers avg.

Jermyzy 08-30-2011 11:55 AM

^I only watch the Food Network when I'm hungry haha
