I do agree that tv ratings alone is not a totally accurate measure of recognition, however for media personalities, it is one major factor. I liken this guy to one of my former coworkers, who was one of the leads on a long running network tv show and has been on a number of other shows and films, while there are people that recognize him and know who he is, when out and about around town, the majority of the public had no clue, maybe 3 out of 10 people stopped him to chat or starred/giving the I know you look.
When I say the majority of people don't recognize or know who he is, I'm not saying he's not successful at what he does or that he's a nobody, so if you are a fan of this guy and his show, don't take offense to it. While a lot of people do know them, I wouldn't say the majority do, they aren't like Tom Cruise or Matt Damon where everywhere they go while in town the majority of people recognize and know who they are. I would say that Fieri isn't even as recognizable as other cooks/chefs turned media stars like Gordon Ramsey or Rachel Ray to the general public, just based on my observations. |
