Street-racing vehicles impounded in West Van

Lol hope not a repost.

Two street-racing teenagers have had their high-end vehicles impounded and face charges after police clocked them going more than 140 km/h in West Vancouver, police say.

A police officer spotted the cars on Cypress Bowl Road just after 10 a.m. PT Friday going 143 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, said Cpl. Jag Johal.

“The driver of the BMW sped past the officer in an attempt to elude,” said Johal. “The driver of the Porsche made an evasive manoeuvre by pulling a u-turn and fleeing the away from the officer.”

Johal said the BMW was located in a ditch with about $15,000 damage and the Porsche was located at a nearby school.

Both vehicles were impounded for street racing and the two 17-year-old novice drivers were prohibited from driving for 15 days.

Police will be recommending the charges of excessive speeding and failing to stop for police, said Johal.

RCMP impounded 13 vehicles, including a Ferrari, three Lamborghinis and two Maseratis after an alleged large-scale street race Wednesday afternoon southbound on Highway 99, south of Vancouver.

The estimated value of the impounded cars was $2 million.

The average age of the 13 drivers was about 20, police said.

Jesus fucking christ. 10 cars speeding down the highway does NOT equal street racing. It's called speeding. They weren't trying to "beat" each other anywhere they were just going fast. This whole "street racing" stigma really pisses me off.

Berz out.

The news isn't talking about 13 cars street racing on highway 99. There is another "street racing" happened in West Vancouver. Porsche and BMW.

150cc moped? Too much. Mopeds rarely go over 50.

Those 500-600cc scooters are basically automatic motorcycles

"Witnesses advised the vehicles had traveled at speeds up to 200 km/h and on several occasions two vehicles would travel side-by-side and slow down to allow vehicles in advance of them to take off in a race.

"race" means circumstances in which, taking into account the condition of the highway, traffic, visibility and weather, the driver or operator of a motor vehicle is driving or operating the motor vehicle without reasonable consideration for other persons using the highway or in a manner that may cause harm to an individual by doing any of the following:

(a) outdistancing or attempting to outdistance one or more other motor vehicles;

(b) preventing or attempting to prevent one or more other motor vehicles from passing;

(c) driving at excessive speed in order to arrive at or attempt to arrive at a given destination ahead of one or more other motor vehicles;

Exactly my point. What if you have 10 cars NONE OF WHICH TRYING TO PASS EACH OTHER, NOT TRYING TO OUT DISTANCE EACH OTHER (simply maintaining a high rate of speed) WITH NO PREDETERMINED "FINISH LINE"

In other words a nice Sunday cruz at 150km/hr single file.

According to the "media" all cars traveling between Abbotsford and Chilliwack are street racing as the average flow of traffic there often is 20-30km over the speed limit.

Berz out.

Wow, evasive maneuvers and out running the police deserves a harsh punishment! You might be able to outrun a police cruiser, but you can never outrun a radio and air support!

Which wasn't the case in the Hwy.99 story, if you actually read the article:

Lol being clocked by police at >140 kph and doing a u-turn/driving into a ditch is completely different from what happened to those 13 supercars, these 2 retards definitely deserve any charges that will be laid on them.

Thanks Soundy...beat me to it. Seems somehow he overlooked those salient points! The Cops were wrong and all those witnesses who called it were wrong and the law doesn't say what it says. Understand ?????? Oh yes...and driving in rush hour traffic at over 200 kmh is not operating without reasonable consideration for others. We are the ones who are wrong!

How do the witnesses know they were going over 200km/h?.... Kinda funny actually.

And 140 on that road is pretty hurting...

Well, I do 120 on the 99 and everyone, including trucks, blow past real fast. So it might have been educated guesses.
